SOURCE: Citizen Eco Drive watch

The Citizen Eco Drive watches use special recharchable batteries.
I started collecting a couple of watches and I noticed sometimes a jeweler replaces them with an ordinary battery. The watch will work and at the same time it will try to recharge this one until it explodes! In newer models they made it harder to use the non-rechargable ones by adding a special connector or clip to the rechargable battery types.
Okay, if you say your battery goes bad, did you store your watch in a drawer as many people do? It may have lost the charge over time. First thing to try is to leave it on the window sill so the dial is in the sun. It will start ticking, but please leave it out there for 3 days to a week. The seconds hand will tick irregularly in steps of one and two seconds, to show you it wants you to readjust the time, as it knows it has lost time. Adjust the time and it should run smoothly.
The seconds hand should run in single second steps, if it takes steps regularly, but every 3 seconds or so, it tries to tell you that its power level is going down. It will be able to continue for one or two days, but you should get it into the sun more often.
Charging the battery under a lamp is possible, however this heats up the watch and this may reduce battery life.
If you need to know more about the Eco Drive, look for detail tech manuals for all types here: http://www.citizenwatch.com/downloads/tech/tech.htm
Those are great watches as long as you remember it needs light to charge.

In newer models they made it harder to use the non-rechargable ones by adding a special connector or clip to the rechargable battery types. If you look into the place where the battery goes, you will see a shiny spot where the metal clip needs to touch. If not sure, find the link to tech docs below.

SOURCE: HOW DO I SET MY CITIZENS ECO DRIVE WATCH

You can get a set of instructions from their web site "citizen.com", select "technical support" and the "setting instructions" and then enter the details off the back of your watch.

You will then be able to download instructions.

I put a new battery in a citizen navihawk thunderbird watch. How do i progam it now?

an Eco-drive does not have a battery, it has a rechargeable power cell that is charged by light through the face of the watch. If you have replaced this cell you may have damaged the watch. If the cell was not soldered in, replace it and put it under a fluorescent light for a little while (several hours) and it should start working.

How to a recharge a citizen eco drive silhouette ladies watch..model number sy2030-54E?

Do you mean, you haven't been wearing that watch but to put it in the drawer for a long time?
If so, to recharge the battery, just put your watch outside or anywhere it can catch the sun ray or day light. After few hours or about a day, the battery has been re-charged and your watch will work.
If it still doesn't work after doing that, buy a new watch. Don't bother to repair the watch or to replace the Eco-Drive battery, because of the cost.

Eco-drive watch stop working, after it was in jewelry box for over a year.

First, be sure that the stem is fully pressed in. Pulling out the stem to set the watch stops the action.
The Eco-Drive is still a battery watch. It just has a solar/light powered recharge system built in. The battery will run down after a year of no light. Place the Eco-Drive in bright sunlight for a couple of days in order to recharge the built-in battery. You may recharge the watch in fluorescent light as well, it just takes longer.

Stem is broken watch cannot be wound

Hi,

An Eco-Drive does not need to be wound. It has a rechargeable battery in it that is recharged by light hitting the dial of the watch.

All Eco-Drives have to be allowed to get light on them to recharge the battery. If they are put in a drawer or covered all the time by shirt sleeves then the battery will drain and they will not work.

If the battery is completely drained then the battery will not be any good and will need replacing by a qualified watchmaker.

Try setting your watch under a light or in a sunny spot with the light shining on the dial. If in the sun light it should take a few hours to charge the battery. If under a light it can take more than 18 hours to fully charge the battery.

But if the charging does not hold then the battery is no longer good and requires replacement by a qualified watchmaker.

Hope this helps,

Ken

Have a divers eco-drive that does not run. It has been in direct light and it shows no signs of activity.

Most likely the battery has failed. Although there could be something else causing this. The most common problem is the battery though. It is best to have a watchmaker replace the battery. Not all watchmakers are familiar with how to replace the batteries in these so be sure to ask them.

Hope this helps.

I have a Citizen Eco drive waterproof wrist watch with four buttons and no ''winder'' can I get instructions for this watch

The eco drive means that it charges the battery using artificial light or sunlight, there is no need to wind as the battery never runs out of charge providing you keep it in light.

How to replaced a eco drive battery

The ECO series of Citizen's do not require battery replacement, as they are solar powered. If the watch stops due to a long period of non-use, there is a procedure in the manual as well as the Citizen website on how to get it running again. You will have to expose it to light for several hours (but not with lots of heat such as a car dash) to get it running. If you continue to have trouble, you may have a problem with the watch. I bought my wife a ladies ECO drive about 8 years ago and bought one for myself about 2 years ago and have not had a bit of problems with either. They are extremely good watches and it is nice not to have to worry about "when will the battery die?"
