overhaul the carby or fit a new one ( diaphragms gone hard )
cost for the kit and a new carby are close enough to go for the new one

Strimmer keeps losing power

First, see that carb-mounting screws are not loose, Then replace the fuel filter. Dump out old fuel (mix) and put in fresh. If it's still sucking wind, find the high-speed carb adjustment screw and turn it ~1/8 turn ccw (rich). Maybe a bit more if that improves things under load. Take small steps.
Then maybe check fuel lines for cracks/brittleness and replace a/r with tygon lines of same size. Sometimes diaphragm carb diaphragms get stiff if they've been stored dry. Best fix for that is to let them sit, wet with fuel for a day or two.

When I take off the choke on strimmer (timber tech) in cuts out it will only run when choke left on

first you must remove the carburetor and see if the diaphragms are ok, if not, replace them and you are good to go
second if diaphragms are ok you can try to clean the carburetor
if no joy looks like you need a new one
make sure you take notes on how you take it of and dismantle as you may need to put it back together

EFCO petrol strimmer - can anyone tell me how to

If you need to clean the filter, remove it from the fuel tank and blow compressed air into it, otherwise you may have to do the following:

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.
Please do not forget to rate me, Thanks
Good Luck, I hope this helped

Strimmer revs high and low when in use

Sounds like you need to either clean the carburetor, or buy a carb. kit and replace the small screen, needle valve, gasket(s), and diaphragm. You may as well clean the air filter while your at it. If you need tips on how to best to clean carb., just let me know.
