SOURCE: Fridge freezer over heating and is not cooling fridge section

It is normal for the middle strip to be hot. Did you check the temp setting in the fridge section?
Also - you might check for blockage in the bottom. Excessive dirt/dog hair can block the air flow.
Good luck

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. SOURCE: Maytag MDBH970AWS Heating element won't turn off

The heater relay is located on the control board, a faulty relay or a faulty control board would cause the problem you have described. The fix is to replace the control board. Parts for your unit should be available from most appliance parts retailers, if there is not one local to you, the part is available at www.apliancepartspro.com. along with an exploded view of your unit

Hope this helps.

please take the time to rate this solution

SOURCE: Refrigerator/freezer stopped cooling during a heat wave

Good day,
Turning the thermostat to a warmer setting should not have caused the machine to quit cooling. Actually, the engineers give you far less leeway than you might think.
The controls are more in a class of fine tuning, otherwise people would be getting themselves into trouble. The manufacturers simply design the warm and cold parameters in a fairly narrow range.
The best setting is normal. When away, the machine will run far less simply because of no door openings. Opening a door lets in large amounts of air every time it's done, which is where your cost to run it exists.
Two things. One, if the temp in the kitchen exceeded 90 degrees for any length of time, you are operating it beyond it's design range, however two, it sounds as if the thermostat hung up, causing your issue. You may want to have it replaced, but it would be useless to call anyone when it's performing normally.
There is no test on thermostats other than by observing their action when the machine is not operating properly.

Hi I have a domestic rm3862 refrigerator and it will not cool on gas or elect we replace the elect board and still don't work it get hot not cold

Evaporation fridges are normally reliable and have the advantage of being silent. There is no compressor but there is a heating element that should cause the gas to circulate. Under normal circumstances the fridge thermostat should switch off the heating element when the interior is cold enough and the subsequent heating cycles will be so short the heat will not disrupt the fridge operation.

If the fridge is not cooling the thermostat will not switch off the heater and eventually it will begin to warm the interior.

It will not cool if there is insufficient refrigerant.
It will not cool if there is no refrigerant gas.
In this case it will be because a leak has allowed it to escape.

It will not cool if the refrigerant has settled away from the heating element. This happens sometimes if the fridge has been unused for a time or transported in a non-upright way.

It sounds odd but years ago we had a large American Electrolux evaporation type fridge that was unused for a while and would not work. We were told to take it outside and to spend an hour tipping it over and over. We did this and when we plugged it in it began to work like a brand new fridge even though at that time it was nearly 30 years old...

It was still working when we gave it away five years later.

I keep getting water at the bottom of the fridge, under salad boxes on my Hotpoint fridge

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

Sounds like maybe your element for Heating when on hydro may be faulty. A voltage check at spades on board connected to element will confirm. If power to element but no heat felt at element should confirm it's faulty. Remember, if stack is already hot from propane, element will also feel hot, so it has to be out or fridge cooled down at back first.(off)

Kenmore refrigerator,bottom stoped cooling.freezer works just a little bit.8 years old.bought new.

More than likely your freezer has a ice block in it it will have a lot of frost on the inside of the freezer. This ice block is usually caused by a bad timer or a bad heating element in the freezer. The timer kicks in a timed cycle to turn on the heating element and a hi heat limit keeps it from getting to hot just hot enough to melt any frost and ice. (thats how we have frost free fridges now)

GE Profile - fridge not cooling

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

No Cooling in the Fridge section, freezer is icing

Generally on these models they rely on cold air being pumped fr\om the freezer to the fridge and have a adjusting device to control the flow, you need to locate and check this is free and working properly. Another reason for freezer ice up is a shortage of gas in the unit, this is usually unfixable as the leak can rarely be found as it usually occurs within the cabinet case. Sorry to say it would then be a throw away.
