I have a Yardworks Electric log splitter Model 060-3895-8. What tool do I use to remove the oil drain bolt? Now resolved - vice grips.

SOURCE: Honda EU3000i is rated to put out 15A but won't

If you attempt to use a 15 amp generator to power a 15 amp appliance you will have a big problem. Always plan to use no more than 80% of any power supply. You are currently trying to use the absolute maximum power this generator can supply, and it's probabally not rated for that load at continious use. Get a larger generator, or , a very sharp axe.

Typically , the threads in the crankcase are what get stripped out. Find a dealer that has oversize drain bolts and have them tap the drain hole in the crankcase out to the next size bolt. That is the best fix for a stripped drain bolt hole. Always be careful, when changing your oil , to only tight the filter and the drain bolt (with soft aluminum sealing washer) enough to seal the oil in . Over tightening will only make the next oil change harder with the possibility of this happening again.

Plug a known working lamp into the power socket to verify that power is there. This unit should be used on a 20 ampere circuit and use a heavy 12 gauge extension cord if required. When the motor runs, it also drives the pump. The pump could be in poor condition or the piston may be passing hydraulic fluid by it. Service of these units should be left to an experienced hydraulic mechanic who will have the necessary pressure gauges and other specific tools. If you just obtained this splitter, take it back for warranty service or replacement. Hydraulic service is not cheap! Hope this helps!

HI I am working on my 1998 Lincoln continental and just about have everything removed to take out he intake manifold but one of the bolts holding the EGR valve is rounded off


If youve got an electric or air powered cutoff tool,you can use it to cut a score mark into the bolt head,insert the largest/widest flathead screwdriver youve got into the score mark then clamp some vice grips down onto the screwdriver shaft and use it to turn the screwdriver.If the screwdriver shaft is round and the vice grips just keep spinning around it,use the cutoff tool or a flat file and make two flat areas on the screwdriver shaft so the vice grips have two flat areas to grab ahold of.If that isnt do-able,use the file or cutoff tool and turn the bolt head from a rounded off shape to a 2 or 6 sided shape.Vice grips would work on the 2 sided bolt or a socket would work on the 6 sided bolt.If its a nut thats rounded off,instead of a bolt,you can buy a small tool called a nut splitter to split the nut.An ease out is also available,but its success is dependant on how tight the bolt is.Egr valve and exhaust manifold collector bolts/studs are subjected to so much heat that it causes them to weld to the part,making them extremely hard to extract.

Should i use vice grips to hold the washer and turn bolt counter clockwise do u think it Will loosen?


Hi Todd:
In my experience, vice grips are a useful last resort.
Is there a head available on the bolt? If so, a socket is the preferred tool, or a box end wrench.
Have you soaked it with penetrating oil?
Counter- clockwise would be the normal direction of rotation to remove a right hand thread.
What is this bolt attached to?

My dipsticktube is broken off about tow inches above the motor. it a 93 s-10 with a 4.3. how would l remove it?


If the remaining part of the dip-stick tube is oil soaked. It should pull out easily. Take a small screw or bolt and slide it into the tube. The bolt must fit inside snug (don't use one that will drop down and inside the pan). At the bottom of the tube, wet it with penetrating oil (to break up the rust). Then attach the vice-grips to the tube. The bolt or screw is to prevent you from crushing the tube. Gently rock the vice-grips back and forth, to break the tube loose from the engine block. Don't be too rough, you don't want to break the tube flush. If you are unsuccessful, remove the vice-grips and with a small hammer and flat chisel. Gently tap the bottom of the tube. Don't cut through it, the goal is to try to break the rust inside loose. After a few taps, reconnect the vice-grips and try again. you may need to repeat 6-12X so be patient. Adding hydrolic oil to yardworks 4-ton wood spliter


Replace the Hydraulic oil in the log splitter after
every 150 hours of use. Take following steps to
replace it.
  1. Make sure all moving parts stops and the log splitter is unplugged.
  2. Unscrew Oil Drain Bolt with Dipstick to remove it.
  3. Turn the log splitter on the Support Leg side over an 4 liters capacity container to drain the hydraulic oil off.
  4. Turn the log splitter on the the motor side.
  5. Refill fresh hydraulic oil at the volume as per the hydraulic oil capacity of a particular model indicated in above specifications table.
  6. Clean the surface of Dipstick on the Oil Drain Bolt and put it back into the oil tank while keep the log splitter vertically.
  7. Make sure the level of the refilled oil is just between 2 grooves around the Dipstick.
  8. Clean the Oil Drain Bolt before thread them back. Make sure they are tightened to avoid leakage before place the log splitter horizontally.
Periodically check oil level to ensure it is between
2 grooves around the Dipstick. Upon Lower oil
level, oil refilling is required.

Plug was overtightened .. subsequently stripped .. took it in for an oil change & they tried a vice grip on the plug .. no movement but bolt head is gone . I need remobe the plug .. I have a new...


They should have never used a vice grip. You always use a socket on any hard to remove bolts because it provides equal force around the entire bolts. Vice grips only grab two sides.
You can try a bolt extractor, you can purchase them at Lowes and other places.
If it doesn't work, you will need a new oil pan.
Stop going to the place(s) that put it on too tight, and tried to take it off with vice grips.

Removing rusted nuts from bolts to replace toilet seat


Try:

* Penetrating oil...let it soak at least 1/2 hour

* If the nut is stripped, try either grabbing it with vice grips

* If all else fails, either grind it off, or use a nut splitter. Nylon is pretty soft, so it should be relatively easy to break
