There is something wrong with the controller that could need a part replaced or you can purchase a replacement control unit.

What is smart pedal foot control for Bernina? I have a Patchwork Edition 140 and needle stop down should be controlled by pedal according to shop. I don't understand.

The foot control you are talking about will activate the needle down function on your machine. You need to press down on your heel on the foot control. This was the precursor to the automatic needle up/down option that is found on newer sewing machines that will automatically stop with the needle in the down position.

Fast sewing on its on without pedal

Hello Tammy.

There is a mal-function in either the sewing machine or the foot control, or the junction. It would be good to find out which one is faulty. If the power and foot control leads are joined, there is no easy way to distinguish the location of the problem.

If your foot control and power leads are separate, disconnect the foot control and check if machine continues to sew by itself. If yes, the problem is with the machine. If no, the foot control is either stuck or malfunctioning. In either case it is best to take it to your local qualified technician.

CS6000-i E5 showed on screen, now my backstitch doesnt work. Is this an adjustment I can make?

The start/stop button was pressed while the foot controller
was connected.

Disconnect the foot controller,

and then press the start/

stop button. Otherwise,

operate the machine by
using the foot controller.
Hope this helps.

What does E5 means

On automatic sewing machines, the start/stop button was pressed while the foot controller was plugged in. Unplug the foot controller if you are using the automatic function.

bar tack stitch was selected and the foot controller was pressed (or the start/stop button was pressed if the foot controller is not connected) while the buttonhole lever is lowered.

An "E1" message appears on the panel. Description: The foot controller was pressed (or the start/stop button was pressed if the foot controller is not connected) and the reverse/reinforcement stitch button was pressed while the presser foot is raised.

Lower the presser foot lever before continuing the operation.

My foot pedal doesn't seem to work when I push it down

Probably needs a new foot control. Bring the machine and the foot control to a shop, they can test it to see if it is the control, the wires from the control to the machine, or something else.

The control and wiring are sold separately, the control is often cheaper than the wires from the control to the machine, don't throw anything away until you have someone look at it first!

They will remove the non functional foot control from the wiring and put a new one on. A new foot control is not expensive.
