Question about John Deere Garden

Open Question

I have a John Deere LA115. Is there a trick to loosening the bolt on the small pulley or placing the belt back around the small pulley?

I have cleaned the deck. The belt is not broken, appears in good shape. I can place the belt around all the other pulleys except the small one. I used WD40 without help. I can't get the belt between the bracket and the pulley

SOURCE: Harmonic balancer Pulley problem. My belt

I don't know about the pulley but I CAN suggest a surpentime belt that has worked GREAT for me. It's available at most auto after markets, (Auto Zone, Oreilly's, Napa etc...) and is called a "Gator Belt". Stock belts are ribbed on the inside but the Gator Belt looks like an alligator's back on the inside. As a result, I've had one on for over four years without a problem.

How to adjust tension on belt of John Deere Ride On D140

How to adjusted Cutting Deck Belt Tension

You do not say which size cutting deck you have. I will be writing about the 48", 3 blade cutting deck

The belt on this deck is self tensioned. The tension is provided by a spring attached to a moveable pulley on the deck. When the belt is in place you can manually force this pulley forward/backward and it will release the tension.

If the belt is off track, place the belt back around all the pulleys in the correct path, lastly force this spring loaded pulley forward/backward (depending on your deck, the direction is not important, the tension is) to get the belt around the pulley. If the belt is placed correctly, when you release the spring loaded pulley it will properly tension the belt.

Typically, these belts should not be jumping off. If yours is coming off frequently the belt may be worn. When they wear they get quite a bit longer, then the tension pulley cannot apply the correct tension. Rarely does the tension spring have to be replaced.

The other problem that causes belt jumping is worn spindles and stationary pulleys. The spindles are the most likely to need replacement. You can buy excellent replacements for JD spindles on Amazon for very reasonable prices. The following spindles are super replacement spindles for the 48" deck. They may very well be the same for smaller and larger decks; I have not researched that. Just search Amazon for Silver Streak # 285851.

Replace a fanbelt on john deere 4020 diesel tractor

Most older models had the adjustment on the alternator. loosen it and push it toward the engine. remove & replace the belt. Pull the alternator away from the engine until the pulley cannot be turned by hand due to the tension. Tighten the adjustment bolt to secure it. Don't overtighten the belt.

Belt slipped off Transmission Pulley of John Deere D110. How to get the belt keeper aside and put the belt back on the pulley?

There are usually two bolts securing the keeper to the bottom of the tractor. remove one and loosen the other and you should be able to swing it out of your way. worst case is to take them both out and replace the belt and reinstall the keeper

I need the deck belt routing diagram for my John Deere 185 42" deck.

I fiound some beautiful pictures in a manual for the 48" mower deck by John Deere. I haven't
found the 42" diagrams yet, but I can TELL you how it goes on (or is supposed to). Loosen the sheaves (pulleys) and belt guides. The inside of beltl go on back side of each of th 2 blade pulleys. On the discharge side it will come around to the back side of smaller pulley. On left side it will come to back side of the foward pulley. Then it will go around the jacksheave on the engine shaft. Just remember, th notched side or inside of belt will always go to the v side of pulley and the back side or flat side of belt will go to the flat pulleys. Good luck

If this is the guide your talking about: http://jdpc.deere.com/pimages/MP30/MP30295________UN14NOV02.gif

You will have to losen all of the 6 bolts to get the belt on. The belt guide is there to prevent the belt from jumping off of the pulley and it fits very close to the running belt. Without losening the bolts you will not be able to get the belt on.

Thanks for using FixYa.
