SOURCE: Water Softener won't regenerate

mmmm.

I see they charge for a user manual!

I am not familiar with this controller. Is there a manual overide - a large screwdriver slot on the frint of the main shaft?

If so, you should try turning that (clockwise) to the next position and see if the moter will drive it from there. If not, then take it right through 360 degrees, one step at a time.

If it does not work on the next cycle then you may have to replace the controller.

SOURCE: Aqua Systems water softener isn't using salt when it regenerates. Water isn't being softened. Have manually regenerated three times -- goes through the cycle but water seems to be unchanged. Any troub

check that the small hose to the pickup in the salt tank is not blocked or loose allowing air into the unit rather than the salt water. IT runs on a venturi effect so any air leaks will not allow the water to be picked up. Download the operating manual for the unit as it has a detailed operation including fault finding and over hauling of the unit.

Can u use water softner pellets direct in to water

Water softener salt is used to regenerate a water softener after the softener has been in operation for a few days removing hardness from the water. If you were to only add the salt to your water you would still have hard water but now it would become salty. Go to youtube and look up How does a water softener work? If you want to buy one go to wqa.org and find a Certified Water Specialist close to you. He or she will be one of the only 5% of water treatment people who have received formal training in how to fix your water. There is a lot that can be done to improve your water.

You can try several regenerations to see if it helps. But if the well guys did not "by-pass" the softener when working on the well and all that C!!##p got into the softener it is probably toast and either needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Sestem is not using up salt and will not flush the lines when it is set up to .

Hi Joey,

There could be several reasons why your softener is not using salt. If it has a Demand Control the turbine that meters the water may be blocked and stuck so the softener doesn't realize that you are using any water, so it won't try to regenerate.

Your injector may be plugged, although this would cause the salt tank to become more full with each regeneration.

If you initiate a manual regeneration and regeneration does not happen you may need to replace the softener.

Knowing what make, model and age of your softener would help greatly in assessing. The best quality softeners last 15 to 18 years unless you have an Autotrol Turbulator in your softener, in which case add 25% more time; 19 to 23 years. There are a few brands that don't seem to last longer than 10 years...

the salt in use should water softener salt and nothing else
there is water added to the salt crystals up to the overflow hole
during regeneration that salty water (Brime) is drawn into the unit and upon finishing the process that reserve is refilled for the next time
there is little salt actually used during the regeneration process ( around 4 regenerations to a 25 kg bad )

Do you mean the salt tank was empty? If so fill salt tank half way wait about 6 hrs for brine to develop. Manually regenerate softener 2x within 24 hrs. When the salt runs out the resin becomes saturated with hardness minerals. It takes at least 2 regeneration cycles back to back to completely restore soft water. Also the hot water will take some time to get soft. It will help to flush water heater after cold water is consistently soft.
I hope this helps,

If i had to describe how the water-softening unit works in one paragraph in simple words, can u help me with that plz?

The softener resin traps hard water and iron. The sodium strips the resin of hardness and iron as it regenerates and recharges the resin.

Regeneration is nightly as oppsoed to the prrprogrammed 14 days

"DAYS00" indicates it is set to run every day. You may have lost power and it reset to factory settings. If the Gold series softener you have is the Aqua Sensor model (this is a probe in the resin tank that senses a change in the water chemistry and sends a signal to regenerate) the probe can get coated with iron and will either send NO signal or a Constant signal which will make it regen every night.
Usually a Gold series softener is either set up as metered or aqua sensor. There is an option for an override (such as 14 days) or it can be set up as a time clock model. Unplug the softener for 2 minutes and plug back in, re-program the controls to "DAY14". Make sure what the system is suppose to be set up as, Meter, AS, Time Clock.
Here is a link to Culligan for the Gold manual.

Resin in soft water

Curious if you have had any resent well pump issues, low pressure lost pressure? Has the well pump gone done (possible vacuum created drawing out resin)
Often water softeners will have a bye-pass on them. I would try bye-passing the softener for a bit, run the water (and the pump) for a while clearing your system of any resin. I'd open bath tub valve or better yet an outside garden hose (watch for resin)to avoid plugging a aerator. If you see a significant pressure gain it could be that your softener has some plugging> In some areas of the U.S. Iron Bacteria has formed in aquifers which with time will plug a softener along with piping. If this is happening you will have to treat your well, this is done with chlorine (please use a professional here, we are talking about your drinking water) If this is happening the well will need to be treated once or twice a year.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
Please start with the bye-pass on your softener, if your water pressure is greatly better you have narrowed down to where your problem is

I am not familiar with your specific model of softener, but generally speaking, adding water to the brine tank is the last step of the regeneration process. This way the water can soak the salt until the next regeneration is called. Then, as you have determined, the valve does reverse direction and draws the brine solution through the resin.
There are other steps involved in regeneration, like back-washing and packing the resin, but you are mostly correct.

Hope this helps,
Kermit
