Question about Vizio Televison & Video

Open Question

The cause of a double image on lower half of vizio m43-c1 television.

So. My initial frustration is this unit is just over 1 year old and of course out of warranty. After initial research on YouTube the problem did not seem to be the screen but possibly a Tcon board. I replaced the rest of the components on the back and it still has the same double image on the lower half of the screen. Thank you for your help.

SOURCE: LNS4692D - TCON Board (seems there is a systemic issue)

You have to be very careful with the flat ribbon cables and be sure not to have an electro static discharge to the board while handling it but it is not that difficult of a repair. It is the board that is located at the top center of the back of the lcd panel. Depending on your problem, eg. line in picture, no picture with backlight.... it unfortunately only fixes about half of the units. The other half need lcd panels which are very expensive. hope this helps.

SOURCE: No power on Westinghouse LTV-46w1 Television

This kind of failure is very common; that is why I suggest that one should keep the old CRT TV, buy a converter and put them both in the garage or basement so they are handy when our s*e*x*y new sets go belly up.
With fair confidence I can say that the main power supply has failed.
If you want to try this on your own, it only will require the removal of a few screws and a flashlight.
- Unplug the set overnight. - Remove the rear housing  - Use some logic and these tips; look for a separate board with larger than average parts on it and seems closer to the power cord than others. This will be the power supply.
Check the board over for something that looks like a part number and record it. If you find more than one, one of them will be the bare board number, the second (sometimes on a sticker instead of printed directly on the board) should be the part number for the assembly.
Search for the Westinghouse service company nearest you and call them with this info. Ask if they repair these or just sell new ones. If it is the latter, don't pitch the old one, continue to look for a repair service that will take it on after you have the new one in place and can watch your favorites again. The new supply will likely cost between $90 - $150 and with a little common sense, most anyone can remove and replace these in the set. Expect any repair to cost about the same as a new supply; US technical labor costs more than Chinese assembly labor.
These supplies can be as reliable as the primitive older type but companies refuse to use the high-grade components necessary to give them a long life so they fail much sooner than the old, less efficient kind known as 'linear' supplies.

I'm indecisive, and it's frustrating me?

Well, of course, you are very young, and all the things you think you want to be, usually take years of training. Why not take a practical course in something until you make your mind up. What you think you want to be at 17 you may hate when you are 30. good luck.

Ge profile fridge tfh22pr. everthing is working ok, but when compressor shuts off a very loud clunk type noise is heard. happends amost evertime compressor runs. fridge is approx. 15 yrs old

The compressor, which is the heart of the sealed system, is that big black steel ball in the back of the unit. Inside is a little pump that is suspended by three or four springs. One of your springs is broken, and when the compressor shots off it bangs against the inside of that ball.
A replacement compressor is no longer available, and even if it were, the repair would cost would be too much to put into a 15 year old unit. ($600-700 min.)
There's no way to tell how long it will run. I've heard stories that ranged from days to years. This should give you time to do a little research on a new unit, and formulate a plan for immediate food transfer if it fails.
There are a lot of sources for the research, but I always suggest people call a couple of service centers that are factory authorized on several brands. You can usually catch a road tech in the shop shortly after opening time, and they will have an opinion to share. I favor the plain jane mechanical twist-the-knob thermostat vs electronics, no water/ice, thanks. But that's just me.
Also check the warranty. Most have gone to the one year and then you lose. Extended warranty?
More research there.

Hope this helps you out, and good luck.

Only three months old and used twice now it won't start we chnaged the gas brand new with new mixture. It boggs and just dies. ECHO PB250

My research shows that a consumer gets a 5 year warranty and a commercial user gets a 2 year warranty on any Echo equipment they buy. Could you consider getting some warranty service on this unit since it is still under coverage? It sounds like a fuel delivery problem (carburetor adjustment maybe), but I also realize that some of the newer "rotary" type carburetors in use don't have the Low and High speed mixture adjusting screws like the old-style diaphragm carburetors that preceded them.

I have a Magellan 315 gps that is appoximately 10 yrs. old. Does it have an internal battery that needs to be replaced?

Not a fix, shared information.

Yes these units have an internal ten year lithium battery. I am currently researching this issue, as I have two dead and one working 300series GPSs. When the internal battery dies and the regular batteries are removed or die the unit will loose all user data (way points and routes), as well as the satellite map and initialization. After dieing the unit will appear to function normally but fail to lock on, track or get a fix. Only showing the coordinates from the initialization. These units also have an internal capacitor that provides sufficient power to hold the memory during quick battery changes, but not over night. I have as yet found a working solution, but only researching this for a few days.

Will not restore after hibernate

dnjspecialti, Possible "black screen of death" . Connect unit to a known good pc running windows XP. If unit still acts same way then go to this old (2005) blog on web. Do a lot of reading and take an asprin or two. Then decide on following options you have open for you.
1. Attempt DIY repair. $5 to $20
2. Contract out the repair. $40 to $90
3. Ask HP if "cash+old unit" swap program available. $35 to $100
4. Just trade-in for new unit. $120 to $250
Research #1 option at FIXYA and YOUTUBE first!!! Only to give you working knowledge of how simple the fix may be to restore unit to working order for possible 2-3 years more service. Do some research on BAD, FAILED, SWOLLEN, LEAKY electrolytic filter capacitors. Then return here to fixya and let us tech's know what you will be doing with unit. If this response was of some help, please rate and leave a comment or reply for other black screen owners to follow. By for now.

Goes to black after one second

lcjj, Is unit black and blank screen? or just black screen? do flashlight test after pc boots-up. Can you see images and icons on desktop screen with aid of flashlight?? How old is the unit? Is unit out of warranty? Have you been to YOUTUBE to check-out DIY video clips on troubleshooting and the low cost DIY repairs being done to CCFL back-lit lcd monitors? Your monitor's problem not new one!! Try some of these web sites: and and and and and after you finish with that you can start reading the fixya PROFILES of "buddymc" , "budmrtn" , "12fixlouie" In short... you will do one of these four things. 1. DIY refurbishment. 2. Contract out refurbishment work. 3. Trade in unit for new. 4. Do a cash+old swap out with Samsung if they are doing a "just out of warranty" swap for "premature failed" units. Do your test and research first. Then make decision on what to do. Good luck. 12fixlouie

I have a Homelite Mighty Light 26cc blower that is really difficult to start. Are there any quick fixes to correct this problem?

Have you mixed up some fresh fuel mixture. The manufacturers have told us this year that any gas over 30 days old is considered bad gas. Of course this unit should be run on a 40:1 fuel mixture. The carburetor may be out of adjustment. The tool for this is only available to the professionals. You may to take it by a shop to take a look at it for you. Of course, if the unit is under two years old, it is still under warranty.
Good Day.

Purchased 9 inch durabrand portable DVD player for my child. and we was using it and the DVD player started smoking out the side. now it will not work. its not even a year old. what are we going to do

Check on the warranty period. Many of these products have 1 year warranties. If so, bring it in for warranty service. Smoke is definately not a good sign. There are problems that can show up this way that are not serious, but in general, smoke usually means that the unit is junk. Try the warranty route first. If there is no warranty, just replace it as the repair cost could easily exceed the initial cost.
