First let me say I HATE AUTO SHUT OFF!!! It sounds like it has wore out. the computer part that tells it when to shut off it not working. It would be cheaper to buy a new one vs fixing yours. If I were you, find an older iron that has LOTS of steam vents and NO AUTO SHUTOFF at your local goodwill, thrift store or garage sale.
make sure your adobe flash player is updated,, when I went to the site you listed,, I clicked on the 3rd option for that link and it opened right up,, if not try this one, thats where it took me when I opened it,, http://www.backplusonline.com/eurosteam_help/home.htm
your iron has a thermostat fault its this thermostat thats cutting in and out that puts the red light on it could be fixed but that wont be a cheap fix best bet is to buy a new iron as that would work out cheaper
Sounds like there was water in the line when it was stored, which caused deposits to bild up in the line and not work without pressure. Hence having to press the button to get steam out.
Try loading it full with really hot water and a small amount of bleach. Steam all of the water out of it into the air. Clean out the resevoir with fresh water after it has cooled and try again.
