Question about Plumbing
NO.. no no no... Don't smash out all that tile
and granite just yet
(Welcome to fixya) an obviously open...
TOTALLY FREE... all volunteer website.
Hello Donna Taylor,
The reason this site is called FIXYA... is because
there are a few of us left here that KNOW valves
can be fixed... (especially OLD brass things).
If you valve is 20 years old... AMERICAN STANDARD,
DELTA, MOEN or PRICE-PFISTER... you probably
do not have much to WORRY ABOUT.
Parts and kits abound.
VERY SAGE words of advice... close the drain
BEFORE DROPPING that screw, spring or cap...
Delta (ball type) single handle do INDEED
have SPRINGS... and they WILL fit right
down that drain... Have a look on eBay...
Delta single hanle repair kits eBay
Sites and opportunities to do your job fast,
cheap & quick abound...
Pay no attention to the "PLUMBER"
with the sledge hammer & crow-bar...
Be GENTLE and ALWAYS KEEP your old parts.
New... modern... imported faucets MAY provide bigger
CHALLENGES... but that is why of FEW good
PLUMBERS stop by to help...
In the case of bath/shower controls..
OLDER is better (especially BRASS).

(in my opinion))... I like to shower & GET OUT.

Turn the water off at the faucet, remove the handle and the retaining nut that is apart of the trim. You will see where you can use a wrench to remove it. The ball assembly will come right out and you can replace the washers right below it. Put it back together and if needed, tighten the tension ring that is on the retaining nut (usually grey or white in color) so it won't leak water around the ball stem. Good luck.
