Question about Garden

My Ariens 927-046 has not forward motion below 3 on speed sel.

My Ariens 927-046 runs great as long as I have the speed control at 4 or above. Anything under 4 and the forward motion is very slow to almost a stop. I have replaced the friction disk and the clutch tension spring to no avail. Mowing with the speed selector at 4 is too fast for anything but the most wide open spaces

    I cannot fine a speed selector relay in the parts list. This model has manual speed selection. I will contact Airens



    I assume I do not have to pay for this solution since it really is not a solution.

    The solution was not even a part on the parts list. The recommendation to call Airens should be a charged fix.

It sounds like the speed selector's relay is actually the issue. If it works fine at 4 or above then I certainly wouldnt think the friction disk or clutch tension spring is the culprit. I am familiar with this model but have never seen anything like this problem. Have you called Ariens? They have free technical support on their products, I believe for life, so they should be able to confirm my suspicion. Their number is 920-756-2141

Give them a try, if they are no help please get back to me here and we can try a few more things.

    I am not sure how they will determine that on fixya's side as far as the payment is concerned. How do I purge the hydraulic system?
Hydrostatic transmissions use oil, under pressure, to provide movement for the tractor. The fluid is pressurized with a pump inside the transmission. If any air is in the fluid, the pump will try to pressurize air. This condition is known as cavitation, and is detrimental to the pump since it allows the pump top operate dry. When the pump cavitates it is not pressurizing any fluid, so the transmission is not able to provide the movement needed.
If your mower is new, or has been stored for a long period (longer than 2 months) the transmission needs to be purged before use. Also, if you experience loss of drive, or slower response, then the transmission should be purged first.
The following procedure will remove trapped air inside the transmission(s).
IMPORTANT: SHOULD YOUR TRANSMISSION REQUIRE REMOVAL FOR SERVICE OR REPLACEMENT, IT SHOULD BE PURGED AFTER REINSTALLATION BEFORE OPERATING THE TRACTOR.
Step 1- Place the rear of the mower safely onto jackstands on a level surface with engine off and parking brake set.

Step 2- Disengage transmission by placing freewheel control, located at the back of the frame, in the freewheeling position.

2a- Mowers with seperate pumps and wheel motors the freewheel is activated by turnign the bypass valves, one on each pump, two full turns.
The oil resevoir needs to be filled to the specifications listed in the owners manual before starting the purge procedure.
Step 3- Sitting in the operators seat(riders), start engine. After the engine is running, move throttle control to slow position. With motion control levers in neutral (N) position, slowly disengage clutch/brake pedal.
Step 4-Move motion control levers to full forward position and hold for five (5) seconds. Move levers to full reverse position and hold for five (5) seconds. Repeat this procedure three (3) times.

NOTE: During this procedure there may be some movement of the drive wheels, but they are not under load. The air is being removed from hydraulic drive system.

Step 5-Move motion control levers to neutral (N) position. Shutoff engine and set parking brake. Check and add oil as needed for units with an oil resevoir.

Step 6-Engage transmission by placing freewheel control into driving position, or by closing the bypass valves on the pumps.
Step 7-Sitting in the operators seat, start engine. After the engine is running, move throttle control to full speed. With motion control levers in neutral (N) position, slowly disengage clutch/brake pedal.

Step 8-Slowly move motion control levers forward, after the tractor moves approximately five (5) feet, slowly move motion control levers to reverse position.
After the mower moves approximately five (5) feet return the motion control levers to the neutral (N) position. Repeat this procedure with the motion control levers three (3) times.

most small units just run a dog that you engage with a swift motion at low idle speed of the motor
have the tillers free above the dirt so they can turn with out any load to inhibit the dog engagement

How do i turn off demo mode? And set the clock?


  • Press and hold (SEL) button
  • Then turn the control dial to set "Demo/Link" to off
  • Setting the clock
  • Press number button 4 (Clock). "Clock Hr" (hour) appears. Then, turn the control dial to adjust the hour.
  • Press the >>' /\ (fast forward button) to select "Clock Min" (minute). Then, turn the control dial to adjust the minute.
  • Press the >>' /\ (fast forward button) to select "24H/12H". Then, turn the control dial to select "12Hours" or "24 Hours" time display mode.
  • Exit from setting by pressing the (SEL) Button

Demo problem


Here is how to shut off the demo:
1) Press and hold the SEL button for several second until DEMO appears on the display. Release your finger from the SEL button.

2) Using the Volume control knob, turn left or right to turn on/off DEMO.

3) Press and release the SEL button to accept.

Setting the clock:
1) Press and hold the SEL button for several seconds until the DEMO shows on the display.
2) Use the right search arrow in the 4-way button just above the SEL to get to the clock hour. Do not use the up or down key.
3) Turn the volume control knob to select the hour.
4) press the right arrow once more to get to the clock minute.
5) Turn the volume control knob to select the minute.
6) When finish, press and release the SEL to accept.
