Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
I've had this problem for months. But I can actually still get my games to work. With the xbox laying flat not vertical, I have a controller in one hand while the other gives firm repetative taps on the top of the console. I tap the top with my hand at an angle between where the disk would be inside and the power button. I do this as soon as it starts to read the disk. The controller in my other hand is so if doesn't work the first time I can push the A button twice to quickly open/close the tray to start the reading process over. I have tried cleaning and that didn't help. I don't have the money to fix so this gets me by. Again I've been doing this for months and if you want to at least play a game you can try as well.
Try opening the xbox and then opening the dvd drive you then push the laser back to its home position,,,i had that problem and the laser lens had jumped a tooth,,,, since pushing the laser home i havent had a problem since.. good luck

I had a very similar problem. I was finally able to trace it to a bad DVD drive. I fixed it for about $25.00. Here’s how I did it:
1. Take the Xbox apart
2. Remove the DVD drive and look for a model number (you will need to buy the exact same model)
3. Go to eBay and type in the model number and purchase one from a reputable dealer (they run around $19.00 to $30.00)
4. Disassemble both the new and old drive (after verifying the part numbers are the same)
5. Take the PC board out of the back of the old drive and place it in the new drive and reassemble the Xbox. This is vital. Each drive has been coded to work with that exact Xbox. The data is stored on the drive board so it will need to be swapped.
Should be good to go and it’ll save you the $140 dollars that MS wants
