Question about KitchenAid KSM150PS Artisan Series Stand Mixer

Beater too low-will not lock

My kitchen aid is about 13 years old and now it is giving me trouble. It started throwing flour out of the bowl a few week ago. I looked at it and saw that the beater was touching the bottom of the bowl. I turned the screw a good half turn and that solved that problem but than the head would not lock with the beater adjusted. When I put it back to where the beater is touching it will lock. The beater is not just touching it is fully resting on the bottom of the bowl which makes the mixer wobble and make banging sounds. What should I do?

I would check the bottom of the beater blades to see if they are out of shape.,or is the base of the mixer raised somehow to cause this problem

Blade is stuck in shaft of kitchen aid

Get some CRC around the shaft and into the beater hole and wriggle it about until it comes free. Rasp the build up in the beater hole out with a round file and clean up the shaft on the mixer. Remember you are cleaning out the hole not trying to make it bigger than it was. In my experience it is a build up of flour in there bonding itself to the hole in the aluminium beater.

Kitchen Aid stand mixer head doesn't lock down and wobbles

You need to do a couple of strokes with a rat tail file at a 30 degree angle at the top of the slot the head lock engages into. You will need to remove the hinge pin to do this. A Kitchen Aid agent will have done plenty of then so it won't cost an arm and a leg to get it sorted.

The head to my kitchen aid mixer bounces up when kneading dough

This sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.

If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.

Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.

Food made with KitchenAid Stand mixer tastes like grease

The likelyhood of grease coming from the mixer is extremely small. As long as the beater & bowl were washed first and the shortening you used was fresh, there shouldn't be a grease taste.
