Have Samsung HL-R4667W TV. after power off for 10 secs., could not get tv to come on, as it was not on all day, could it have been a power surge? Is there a reset? The tv does click, and fan runs, and lamp seems to be lit, but dark gray screen with no sound. What part could be the problem after a a power surge? I order a lamp anyway Nick

Did not answer my questions. I did all the obvious things. Again, is there a reset? If a power surge is possible with the tv off, what
    could have failed? NICK

Lee, I just want to know how a reboot of the power can cause the lamp circuits to be affected. Is there a reset or breaker circuit? How come the lamp seems to be on? why no sound? The lamp

assembly has a switch and pc board marked 'protection circuit'. Can this be the problem? NICK

  • thechiaros Jul 27, 2009

Thanks for new answers. I was a repairman a few years ago before high tech. The 'lamp' light is blinking, but the remote has no effect. The lamp and fan seem to be working. It may be the low

rectifier circuits. I have to pull the plug to get the tv off. If it was a power surge, how does it affect

    a turned off tv? NICK

Ben, The tv is only 4 years old, I've replaced the lamp once, 18 months ago. NICK

The lamp may be the problem, but I would like to know if there are any blinking lights on the front of the unit as these will indicate an error code. Sometimes replacing the Horizontal Output Transistor(HOT) repairs the problem you are describing. However you have to take into consideration how old the set is and if the flyback transformer is the problem that caused a short in the first place, then it may be better to just get a new tv as many parts are prone to fail on these older sets. Let me know what you find.

Is the lamp light blinking a pattern at all? Count the number of times it blinks.

The protection circuit would get activated if there was a power surge, look for burned out components on it

So your power went out then the tv would not come back on? First off have you tried unplugging it for like 30-60 minutes. Have you tried other inputs to make sure its not that input. No menu's come up? These tv's have problems with the whole ballast and light engine assembly can be bad. It is not worth it to spend the money on these parts, as You can purchase a new tv with a brand new warranty. I would even return the bulb if you purchased it and put it towards the purchase of a new tv. The price of TV's has come down considerably. You can get one of comparable size LCD for under a 1000$. You can also sell your tv for parts as I am sure there are people that could use them based on the amount of issues there are. Your tv uses an older assembly that was switched to a philips assembly that also had bulbs that didn't cost so much. If you really want to fix it you can change all these parts but unless your doing it yourself then you will definitely just want to get a new tv because paying a repair man is not worth it by any means for this tv.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

As I said, either your ballast or the light engine assembly has failed. Either way it is not worth the repair. It is how old of a tv, the parts are relatively expensive and the tv could break again in 2 weeks because of other worn components in the tv. Yes the power surge could have definitely caused this. I am not sure what else your looking for I hope you will reconsider and accept my answer.
    Thank you for using fixya,
    Lee

Begin with some obvious things that can fix simple problems. Unplug the projection television and then plug it back in again. Check the outlet to make sure it's receiving power. Make sure the cable to the television is fully connected. Ensure there’s clear air flow around the television and that it isn’t overheating. If you’re still having trouble, move on to your owner’s manual. If you can't find your owner's manual, don't panic, just type the brand name of your televison into an Internet search engine. Most manufacturers have digital copies of owners manuals online, so you can print out a new one. You may need the model number of your television to get the right manual, which you should find just above its serial number on the back of the cabinet.
The owners' manuals for projection televisions list common problems and their fixes in the back. Work through the list, one test at a time, to try and narrow down the problem. When you're troubleshooting, the key is to try one thing and see if it works, then undo the change and move on to the next item.

The most common problem with projectors is a burned-out bulb, either the light source used for rear projectors or one of the red, green and blue bulbs used in older front projectors. You'll often need to order replacement bulbs from the manufacturer, but you can try searching for online stores that offer these bulbs at a discount.

According to an aftermarket lamp manufacturer, there are 2 different lamps (1st and 2nd generations) available for the Samsung HL-R4667W, but only one of them will actually fit. The lamp that is commonly associated with this model, BP96-00826A, is used in housing that has a silver bump protruding from the opposite side as the front face of the bulb itself. The other type, BP96-01073A, is placed in a housing that has a smooth back face and a overall larger bulb. I can verify that the HL-R4667W that I own seems to have the second type of lamp.

As long as you didn't open the housing of the lamp that you purchased to try to install the lamp in the housing that your TV came with, you might still be able to request an exchange from samsungparts.com, given the circumstances.
