The solution to this one is very tricky. You have to remove the shroud to access the inside of the spring return. Pull the rope out but make sure it is still attached to the spindle check to see if the return spring has broken. If it is then it will have to be replaced.

How do you take the outer shell off the engine of my Poulan 446 T pole saw/weedeater. I need to replace the pull cord. Also, how to properly install a new pull cord. Thank you. Don

I do not have knolage of how to take off the cover but I have replaced start cords on other saws. There is a hole in the pully you put the rope through and then tie a knot it it so it won't pull out.Usually there is a half circle in the edge of the pulley you place the rope in so you can wind up the spring but not take up the rope. You will need to count the turns the pulley makes when the rope is pulled out then add one or two more turns so the rope is pulled in snug. Then you take the rope out of the notch and let it coil up nomally.

How to replace pull string on honda 5hp pressure washer?

you will need to remove the flywheel shroud and turn it over so you can see the pully, remove the old rope then wind the pully against the spring tension until it stops, then clamp it with a c-clamp then take the new rope and feed it through the pully into the knot hole and tie a knot on the end release the clamp and let the rope rewind into the pully(slowly) until it can't fit anymore then pull a little bit back out then cut it off there and reinstall the handle then tie a knot on this end and reassemble the shroud back onto the engine...good luck
ps this also works on any small engines)

Replace starter cord, briggs & stratton 6.5 MTD mower

my rope broke to lol. i have bought new roape and have reinstalled it. u have to take top of the mower apart. the plastic cover take it off all the way a few bolts u can see un do them. pull off the plastic cover and take gas cap off so it will come off. next u will see 2 bolts on the fron of the mower on the rope houseing. un do them. next behind the mower 2 more bolts. u will see them it holds the rope houseing unit in place. after u unbolt both it will come of easy. next ull see when u tip it upside down a bolt with flat head bolt. use a socket or falt head undo that. next pull out the pully that the rope gose around. install new rope threw hole in rope houseing and threw the rope pully. ull see a srping on the rope pully. its hard for me to get it to wind all the way back up so all i did was roll up the rope best i could and reinstall the pully. titen flat head bolt back in place and reinstall all bolts and plastic cover. it should work now.
