I would be first looking for poor solder connections with a set of this age. There is a possibility that some components are defective as well, but usually poor solder connections are the culprit. IF you can solder, you can attempt the repair yourself. Realize that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged.

Look for solder connections that appear grainy or have rings and resolder them. Concentrate in the areas close to heatsinks. Be specially careful around the flyback transformer (part with large red wire going to the picture tube). This is the source of the high voltage and the tubes store it up so there is a shock danger there. Again carefully resolder any and all solder joints that are not "shiny" and that should resolve the problem.

If not, then try to see if there is a pattern to when the set works correctly and for how long. These will be clues to the defective part.

Thanks,
Dan

Begin with some obvious things that can fix simple problems. Unplug the projection television and then plug it back in again. Check the outlet to make sure it's receiving power. Make sure the cable to the television is fully connected. Ensure there’s clear air flow around the television and that it isn’t overheating. If you’re still having trouble, move on to your owner’s manual.
If you can't find your owner's manual, don't panic, just type the brand name of your televison into an Internet search engine. Most manufacturers have digital copies of owners manuals online, so you can print out a new one. You may need the model number of your television to get the right manual, which you should find just above its serial number on the back of the cabinet.
The owners' manuals for projection televisions list common problems and their fixes in the back. Work through the list, one test at a time, to try and narrow down the problem. When you're troubleshooting, the key is to try one thing and see if it works, then undo the change and move on to the next item.
If the owner's manual doesn't offer a useful fix, try looking in online forums for information about your TV. chances are good that other people have encountered the same issue you have with your projection TV, and they may have a solution for the problem.

The most common problem with projectors is a burned-out bulb, either the light source used for rear projectors or one of the red, green and blue bulbs used in older front projectors. You'll often need to order replacement bulbs from the manufacturer, but you can try searching for online stores that offer these bulbs at a discount.
If the picture is blurry or the colors smear, it's usually a sign that the projectors are out of alignment. You can often fix this yourself using on-screen menus that calibrate your television. Projectors should be adjusted any time the set is moved and about once a month to make sure you're getting the best picture possible.

I hav a 95 berrta and im tying to put a head unit

Hello chrisuftring,

Here's a link to the wiring color code for the '95 Chevy Beretta.

You'll need to match the function of each wire from your head unit and the color code for that would be in your manual. Most aftermarket units are somewhat standard as far as power, accessory, ground, and speaker connections are concerned. But the wiring colors may be different for such leads as remote, power antenna, illumination, dimmer, and muting.

An Alpine head unit has the following wiring colors:
Blue - Power Antenna
Blue/White - Remote
Pink/Black - Audio Interrupt (muting)
Orange - Illumination
Red- Switched 12V+
Yellow - Constant 12V+
Black - Ground
Gray - RF Speaker (+)
Gray/Black - RF Speaker (-)
White - LF Speaker (+)
White/Black LF Speaker (-)
Violet - RR Speaker (+)
Violet/Black RR Speaker (-)
Green - LR Speaker (+)
Green/Black - LR Speaker (-)

With this head unit, you would wire Yellow to Orange, Red to Yellow, Black to Black, Orange to Gray, Blue to Pink, Gray to Light Green, Gray/Black to Dark Green, White to Tan, White/Black to Gray, Violet to Dark Blue, Violet/Black to Light Blue, Green to Brown, and Green/Black to Yellow.

Note that there are 2 "yellow" wires in your vehicle color code. You'll have to test them to determine which one is the accessory wire and which one goes to the left rear speaker. Using a 12V "test light" is the simplest. Connect one side of the light to ground. With the ignition ON probe the yellow wires. One of them should light the tester, the other one won't. Verify that the light goes out when the ignition is OFF and your have separated the redundant "yellows". The one that lit the tester is your 12V+ switched wire and the other one goes to the left rear speaker.

Hope this helps.

Suburu radio wire harness. trying to match up with a new soni deck

Hello uze7, Here is the wiring match up for a 2009 Subaru Forester using the Metra 70-7552 wiring harness: NOTE: The actual harness will be listed as a Nissan harness, but has been used by Subaru since 2007. Also, I'm assuming that your Sony deck uses the standard color code. If not, you should have a manual that lists the function along with the colors. Match the wiring by function, not by color (although the colors may be the same). 2009 Subaru Forester Radio Wiring Color Code: Battery BLUE/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Accessory YELLOW/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS Illumination VIOLET (+) RADIO HARNESS Dimmer BLACK/WHITE (-) RADIO HARNESS Power Antenna YELLOW/BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) BROWN LF Speaker (-) BROWN/WHITE RF Speaker (+) BLUE/WHITE RF Speaker (-) BLUE/YELLOW LR Speaker (+) WHITE/BLACK LR Speaker (-) RED/YELLOW RR Speaker (+) GRAY RR Speaker (-) GRAY/RED Metra Harness: Yellow ? 12V Constant Red ? 12V Accessory Black - Ground Orange ?
