Sony KP-57WS500 57 in. Rear Projection Television

Screen Turns Blue and shuts off (by 3 users)

posted by PLoEnEn on Nov 22, 2007

I have a rear projection Sony KP57WV600. When I turn it on, it turns blue after a minute with blue arched lines at the top and bottom and then the flash focus blinks 5 times. the TV never comes on even though the sound is on. What could be the possible problems and how much will it cost to repair it?

Hello - I had the same problem. If you call a tech they will say that the picture tube is broken and that it will cost $350 + labor to fix it because Sony does not make the part! Do not believe that cock and bull story.

All you need to do it to remove the front lower panel where the speakers are located. Behind it there is a cardboard / plywood board fixed on to the TV with 4 screws. Remove this board. you will then find a switch that contains 6 bolts/screws that can be adjusted:- 3 (upper) and 3 (lower) sets of adjustment knobs or large screws that are probably marked as G(for green), R(for red) and B(for blue). You will probably have to adjust them very slightly while the TV is on. Be careful so that you dont shock your self! And Voila, the problem will be fixed!!

I am not an electrical engineer, but work as an IT professional. It saved me a bunch of money, not to say a happy family/household!

Try this in order to remove the screws from the front panel, either they are directly behind the front edges of the panel or in the front............will try and send you some pics after christmas, but in the meantime try this......................

Try this link in the meantime................there are 4 small screws that are on the rear edge of the front panel. In order to see them, you will have to turn the TV around and look to the front from the back. You will see 4 sets of screws that are on a black plastic panel that holds the silver plastic front panel. Be sure the area is well lit. I will send you some pics of this after christmas, but in the meantime try this...................

I was able to remove the bottom speaker panel last nite, and adjust the blue pot 1/16 turn CCW (1st bottom left). My Tv is like new now. Thank you very much for your help. Thought I have to get new TV. Merry Christmas and happy to all of you.

I was having this problem with blue. I was able to fix it, and now my tv works again. For those having trouble removing a different front panel, here is what I found on mine -

I own a KP57WV600. Removing the front panel is a little trickier on this model. You remove the 6-8 screws on each side behind the two speakers. You will access these from the lower rear/sides of the TV. Remove the small 2ft plastic pieces. Now from the front of the machine grab the entire lower piece (speaker covers & power/volume/chanel buttons) from the bottom and pull down and towards yourself. There are 4 slots that this piece fits into. I had to take off the lower back panel to see why it wouldn't come out. Don't pull to far because this lower front piece is connected to wires. I'd say you have about a foot of play. Now you can remove the fiber board panel and access the blue/green/red lower screws. When you adjust these, go a fraction of a milimeter at a time.

Hello.  have a rear projection Sony KP51HW40. When I turn it on, it turns blue and then the picture is gone, but the sound continues.
I discovered this tech support website and followed your instructions. My son removed the front panel door and adjusted the bolts/screws. And just as you said "Voila", the problem was solved.  I can hardly believe how simple this was.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

IT IS YOU BLUE PICTURE TUB(CRT). THESE SONY ARE COMMON TO HAVE THE CRT GO OUT. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THEM TODAY. THE PRICE IS $300 FOR THE TUBE AND TRY TO FIND A TECH TO INSTALL FOR $150.00 OR LESS. YOU MAY NEED ADJUSTMENTS AFTER IT IS INSTALLED. HERE IS THE WEBSITE THAT HELP ME WITH THE ADJUSTMENT. AND I DID THEM MYSELF. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
