Not a short. FIRST check your battery connections. These can get corroded and turning on the headlights breaks the corrosion enough to allow power to the system.

My 97 metro DRL headlights wont come on what causing this ?

DRL control module , maybe . Go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . To find out what is causing the problem electrical testing needs to be done . Videos on youtube ,basic automotive electrical testing , how to read a wiring diagram , how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter . Check B+ voltage to the DRL control module and the ground circuit as well .Also check pin #1 at the DRL control module , this is low beam signal circuit .

Drl and headlights not working on my 97 Silverado new switch and multifunction switch and still have nothing???

According to wiring diagrams, a 97 model just has the basic system where the headlight switch provides power. A 1999 model is a newer style where the headlights are powered thru a relay with left and right fuses, and the headlight switch provides the ground circuit.
Which system do you have, and do you have power or ground at the bulbs ?

Sounds like there is a significant short in the circuit, often is the harness that the bulb itself plugs into. Look for frayed wires, loose wires, burn marks on the contacts of the buld and/or the harness. With no bulb in the suspected harness, does the other headlight continue to work? If not the circuit short is closer to the relay, and not at the headlights themselves.

Also if the highbeams work, and you see the DRL light flash, is indicating there is a bulb out, and not an issue with the DRL relay itself.

My 1996 jeep cherokee headlamps turn off and on on 5 second intervals. what could be the solution

I'm going to post this in the clarification section. I don't have a wiring diagram for a 96 Grand Cherokee headlight circuit.
The 95 models used a circuit breaker built-into the headlight switch. The 97 models used a fuse in the fuse box. If your model uses the headlight circuit breaker, a short in one of the headlights or the wiring harness would trip the circuit breaker in the switch. You could unplug one headlight at a time to see if it continues to go on and off.

Hi, Have an 88 Olds Cutlass Ciera. High beams come on, but won't stay on more then 10 seconds. Low beamd did work, but now flash on and off. This may or may not be related. Short in tail light , the fuse...

MOST VEHICLES HAVE A CIRCUIT BREAKER BUILT IN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. OVER TIME THE CIRCUIT BREAKER WILL GET WEAK & IT WILL TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON & OFF. YOU PROBABLY NEED A NEW SWITCH & THE FUSE BLOWING IN THE TAIL LIGHT CIRCUIT MAY BE A SEPARATE ISSUE.

99 gmc denali dash light, parking lights, tail lights, and dash light dont work. Interior lights, brake lights, blinkers, headlights work Turning on the headlight switch blows number 15 drl-fog fuse...

You have a short to ground somewhere in the drl-fog lamp circuit. Check for obvious wiring connector or wiring to drl & fog lamps. check wiring for pinched or broken wires coming from sockets. If you don't find problem, you can trace wiring from lamps to main harnesses and hopefully find source of short.
hope this helps.

I have a 1998 cavilier i have no low beams,fuses checked good

I’m inclined to believe you have a headlight switch problem and here’s why. There are 2 fuses one for each of the headlights on the vehicle. For the daytime running lights (DRL) to operate the fuse and wiring to the right head light has to be good, because it supplies the power for both headlights in the DRL mode. The fuse and wiring for the left headlight has to be good because the DRL relay needs power from that fuse to operate. The DRL relay in turn provides a path through the left headlight and wiring to ground. When you pull back on the dimmer switch, you are activating the flash to pass circuit of the headlight switch assembly. Because the flash to pass mode works you then know that the high beam wiring and headlight bulbs are in good condition. This also tells you that the ground circuit for the headlight switch is good. In many newer vehicles, the headlight switch doesn't provide power to the lights. The headlight switch has now become the path to ground to complete the circuit. The headlight switch and the high/low beam dimmer control are one assembly so when you replace one you get the other free. Such a deal! My coffee bet is on the headlight switch assembly.
