MacBook Air screen issues

My computer is brand new and the first day I got it, the screen started to flicker and then bright horizontal lines went across the whole screen making it impossible to read anything. It goes away after awhile but it keeps doing it and I can't figure out what's wrong, can you help me please?

Thank you Valleychick for your support request. I will start by telling you that I am a BIG FAN of Mac computers . . . however, as much as I admire their insanely great strides in innovation by translating artisitic design, functionality, and technology beautifully into a personal computing device, I have been disappoionted how much reliability and overall quality seems to be sacrificed.
The best thing you can do with your problem is first, check out this link: http://blogs.eweek.com/applewatch/content/macbook/is_light_macbook_air_defect_heavy.html
Next, gather your receipts, packaging and all the cords, manuals, disks that came with yourt air book and return it ASAP to the store or reseller you purchased in order to exchange. What you describe is all too common with your model. You may want to print the blog from the link above as well and ask to make verify visually the screen quality of the screen before you take another defective laptop all the way back home.About $85.00 per hour, plus parts is what you will end up paying for labor for Mac tech to repair your AirBook if this problem or others pop up after the warranty expires, so don't be afraid to thoroughly have your exchange computer tested before you take it home. Wish I could FIX-YA better, but this is truly your best recourse. Please send us your feedback if this helped and let me know how your experience with returning the computer went.

My moniter screen go's dark with a bright horizontal white line in center ..it flickers

the driver board is bad in the monitor. Has it been in a place that is super hot like in a car? If the verticle driver chip disconnects from the matrix driver array, it will all squish into a single line in the middle of the screen like you are describing.. might try opening and blowing where the driver board connects to the LCD matrix (bunch of connectors on a plastic flat cable/bus connecting to the end of the LCD panel.. heating them could allow them to reconnect.. Its worth a try, right? It has worked for me about 60% time.

The black splotch your describing sounds very much like something failed on the board and burned the board so now that is a carbon patch that can conduct electric current. With that in mind, I would suggest replacing the board definately

Screen flickering

Not sure if this is your issue, but when the brightness is on full with AC plugged in, the ambient light sensor isn't as sensitive. Unplugged, it is. The ambient light sensor judges the light in the room and responses by automatically adjusting the brightness. What you could be seeing is your shift in movement blocks/allows more light to the sensor (the camera at teh top) and thus adjusting your brightness. To disable system preferences> display> uncheck "automatically adjust brightness.

Also, it may be the LCD, If you are in warranty, bring it to your local Apple store for repair.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Flickering multi-colored line in the middle of the screen.

You have a failure in the vertical deflection circuit. This could be either a bad vertical chip, the power supply that runs the chip or a bad capacitor in that circuit. This is usually a repair best left to a professional. There is a small possibility that it could be bad solder connections. If genlty tapping the unit temporarily solves the issue you can try and resolder the pins on the vertical chip LA7841 is the part number. There is also a resistor 1 ohm 1 watt. If that resistor is open you can assume the IC is bad

MacBook Screen Problem

Hi there
If I understand you correctly from start up the screen is dim but does brighten up after time? But now after start up you are getting a flicker how ever a restart solves this.

On the dimming issue. Check your energy saving settings and brightness key is working OK.

The flickering is a bit of a concern.

Just a couple of questions.
Are there any dead spots on the screen? Areas where there are no pixels.
When you tilt the screen forward and backward, does this effect the brightness or flickering?
