When pinnacle 17 program is launched it opens, but then gives me a "NG_program stopped working" message and refuses to go further. what could be the problem?

It's a program error. It basically means that the program has ceased to function properly. It could be that when you try an export a certain type of file it causes a problem with your system and so it crashes. You could try exporting in a different format. If the problem persist there are two options. One is to contact Pinnacle. Sometimes they have an update that corrects the problem. The other alterative is to re-install the software. Sometimes when you get a crash the software can become corrupted and so needs re-installing.
As with all video editing software save your work often. As crashes are common place to most software of these types.
fwk.exe comes out when trying to open or launched your Studio program. You need to uninstall Studio program then remove all the folder from Pinnacle.
Here check this step by step procedure on how to delete all Pinnacle Folder.
>double click on my computer >Local drive c: >look for Program Data. Take note that Program Data is not visible then all you have to do is to click on Organized>folder and search options>click on view and put check on show hidden files and folders and click okay. >double click on program data then go ahead and delete all Pinnacle Folder >double click on program files then delete all Pinnacle folders >double click on Program files X86 same thing. >go to control panel>(program and features if Vista), program and security if Windows 7, add/remove program if Windows XP then uninstall Studio. >restart the computer after wards. >install Studio 12 Once again check if still the same problem.
Just go to your power options in control panel, and set it so the computer doesn't go to sleep. Depending on your operating system just go to Start>Control Panel>Power options and then change system standby and hard disks to never turn off. Thank you and take care, Lee

Just reinstall Pinnacle , that will solve your problem. your problem is because of some software changes which affected pinnacle also . Reinstalling will solve it . Hope your problem is solved

A problem was identified on systems with Studio 10.7 or 10.8 and where
Windows XP SP3 was installed. Studio 10 can not be uninstalled from
Start => Programs => Studio 10 => Tools or from Add/Remove
Programs.
Workaround:
Insert your original Studio 10 Installation Disk and let the
autostart launch. You should then have the possibility to either repair
or remove the software. Please select REMOVE and Studio uninstall will
then start. "
