Escort 8500 X50 Red K & Ka bands going crazy

Escort 8500 X50 Red: K & Ka bands going crazy in the city.
It will go off like crazy for about 6 block stretch & then nothing.
A few days later, it goes off only intermittingly.
Thanks

Are there any microwave door openers in this area? Also, satellite dish systems use Ka band amplifiers. The Ka band false could have been caused by an older model satellite dish system which was powered on one day but not when you drove by the location later.

As other users said the cleaning took care of the issues. So I took their suggestions because nothing to lose. I took it apart. It is very easy. Just remove 3 crews at the bottom. It has one snap-in hook at one of the corners but easy to separate it. Then I removed the metal part (aluminum die-casted, silver color) from the PCB. It is easy to remove, just remove 6 screws (I think it is 6) then pull the thing out. Inside the aluminum die-cast part is dirty. If you clean inside with Q-tip, you can see the nasty stuff comes off. I think what happens is that the nasty dust comes off then stick on the sensing elements, which might have caused false signal. Also I cleaned tiny elements inside the metal piece with Q-tip. Now it seems working normal. Hope it stays normal. Give it a try if your unit does not act normal. Better than spending $$. Good luck!

Returned unit to Escort. After 2 months of misleading info, returned "repaired unit". Only problem is they returned wrong unit. Different serial #. So I am back to square 1. If it's microwaves, or sattelite dishes, why does it not behave the same each time I pass through?
I now don't believe ESCORT'S claims - these units are not good in the City!

Constantly going off

is it going off with X Band? If so thatere is a way to put it to filter out X Band I have a Redline but it has the same features as yours just follow the manual to go and have it filter X band radar. Also K band will go off as well when you are in a city by automatic opening doors which is normal.

CAL7 is a broad self-test failure code. It will have to be sent to Escort for diagnostics on the specific problem unfortunately.

Changes from auto to hwy to city on its own

The problem is a defective micro switch underneath the City button. Contact Escort about setting up a RMA to get your X50 fixed.

Put Escort passport 8500 X50 into calibration mode.

If you hold down the mute button (on front) and the two buttons on top...when you power up, it will reset.

I have a passport excort 8500 X50 that signals maximum Ka and X over and over.

Are you getting any Self Calibration or Service Required error messages? If not, then this means that the basic electronics are good and that the problem is within the antenna. If your X50 is in warranty then Escort will repair the antenna for free. If not, then there will be a service fee ($80). Yet I can all but guarantee you that after Escort fixes the antenna problem then you will never have this problem again. The service fee also includes fully testing and calibrating your X50, and updating its internal computer firmware code to their latest code. So the end result is that your X50 will perform just like a brand new one.
