Question about Hotpoint First Edition FEW10P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

The washer works fine aparts from the drum wont turn at all.

It will cycle through the program, it will fill and empty But the drum will not turn, The drum will turn if you turn it by hand i.e. with the top off the. The belt is fine and the motor bearing is fine. So either the motor has ceased to work or there is no power to the motor unit only.. What I want to know is how do I check that electrickery is getting to the motor. What else is there to look for to establish that the motor is ok or not

There is a motor speed control board in the back of the washer. if your facing the back of the washer its on the bottom left side. there is a fuse on that board that will stop the motor from running

Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings. Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum. (When the bearings have gone bad, the noise is constant the entire time the drum is spinning.) Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub. Clear the water pump from obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water. Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers. Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.

Kenmore 23012, spin cycle problem

This sounds like a broken coupler gear. I'm having the same problem with my Kenmore-80 Series. The machine fill up, pump out, but when I try to spin I get nothing and the I can hear the motor humming/grinding. I've heard the coupler gear is not expensive $35 or so and the repair procedure is not difficult, but I can't locate how to fix it. If you find any additional information, please send my way. I don't want to pay $150 or so to have it serviced.

Wash starts it fills with water then stops and wont wash

problem may just be that drum is not turning so you think program is stopped. try cancelling and select spin program and see if you get spin
