Hi we have an old ibm typewriter. I changed the ribbon and the wheel. I cleaned everything but still prints half of the letters. The top part to be exact.

There should be an adjustment on the head that sets the angle of the strike for the wheel. Unfortunatley there are no diagrams available for this technology

Wheel writer II will not print - replaced with new ribbon

There's a small cap on the solenoid that pushes the hammer, this cap wears out and the solenoid cannot push anymore. Cheap part, always wears out, new ones are teflon and last lots longer.

IBM Wheel Writer 6 font help

Hi:

There is no manual way to change the pitch on any IBM Wheelwriter. If you want a different pitch you need to change the printwheel.

turn the power off. Remove the ribbon and print wheel & corr tape. turn the power on close cover let it home. open cover install the print wheel & ribbon try typing. if works reinstall the corr. tape. if not there will be a switch with 10.12.maybe 15 or PS make sher the pitch is in the same number as the print wheel. hope this works. Writer beeps w/keystroke and does not type.

You are probably in a format mode that was set up for 12 piych printwheel. Install a 12 pitch pwintwheel or exit the format mode.

Check to see if the ribbon is lifting up, if not there is a black gear on the right side of the printer wiggle it back and forth until it will move. If it is lifting put a multi part form a nd see if it prints on the copies if not the plastic on the print solinoid is probably broken they are available but a bit trigky to install.

Correcting IBM Selectric II Typewritter correcton ribbon won't engage

Selectric I and II type elements are identical (88 char) where Selectric III uses a different element (96 char). The 88 character element will have white lettering and the 96 character element will have yellow. Directly underneath the lift-up tab to remove the element will be a 3-digit number. That's the last 3 digits of the element's part number, which will be preceeded by 1167 for 88 character, or 1352 or 96 character. For example, if you have a '052" stamped on the element, and it's an 88 character style, the P/N will be 1167052.

The correcting mechanism is an intricate additional function of the backspace function. To test it/adjust it/or repair it requires the machine be hand-cycled using a hand cycle wheel which is screwed into the right hand side operational shaft. It's unlikely that an un-trained party would be successful repairing this..
