no cc button, there is a teletext button -i have tried that, but i do think it is related to teletext because sometimes you can make out the bottom of an 888 at the top of the screen. i have tried another LG controller on it to no avail also
I have the same problem Post a new problem

We also began having the large black rectangle show up in the middle of the bottom half of the screen after it's been on for a few minutes. It goes away when I switch channels or turn the TV off and back on, but comes back pretty quickly especially after the TV's been on awhile. It's not on all channels, but several. We don't use the text box, and there's no text in the black box. It's very irritating and we're ready to take the TV back...it's only 2 years old, but having to listen to the news and only see eyes and foreheads of the announcers!

Black rectangle is always whether tv is on satellite, dvd or vcr. I have no closed caption button on the original remote. Help!

As described by Rhyko - we have an LG D128Z12 purchased in 2000. For about the last year (but more often recently) we have had sporadic problems with a large black rectangle covering the middle of the screen, particularly when the TV was switched to standby with the remote and then switched on again soon afterwards. If left for 20 minutes or so it worked without the black box. Recently leaving it for 20 mins does not clear the box. Changing channels or switching on and off makes no difference, but sometimes changing the volume reduces the size of the black rectangle in the middle, but adds a thin black strip at the top of the screen.
