Question about Dometic Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

I have duo therm rooftop model unit is an 2002.Turned it on , on Friday worked fine for about an half hour now the compressor tries to kick on but shuts down after 10 seconds. Took cover off and found the capacitor had a hole melted in it.The hole came from the smaller capacitor it had gotten hot. My question is does this mean our compressor is seized up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way to check the compressor before spending the money on new capacitors?

Hi,
I Found a manual that pertains to all models and this one I'm filing for myself for future reference as this is the best one one i have seen from Dometic.
I had a browse through it and i noticed that there is a troubleshooting section at the end.
You can get the service manual here >>>>>>>>

I would however change the capacitor first as that seems to be at the root of the problem, the manual explains what the capacitors do.

Good luck and thanks for choosing FixYa!!

The compressor may or may nor be bad..
Consider replacing the capacitor(s)..
I have seen ac units act this way and a new capacitor fixed the problem in many cases.. But not always..
If you are not knowlageable and/or experienced in doing so - you risk injory or even dealth..
So it might be best to have a trained tech come look at it..

Hope this hepls !!

Have A Duo-Therm air conditioner on top of my motorhome and it stoped cooling, the fan works fine. Is there a fuse in the box under the filter? It says there is on the out side. I am not sure where it...

Can you please reply with model number off bottom of upper (roof) unit. Should be able to see it when filter is removed from ceiling assy. Please include model of thermostat if possible. You say fan works, but when turned to cool, no compressor kicking in? Try shutting unit off, and turn off breaker at panel as well, give it a few minutes and retry and see if anything changes and let me know.

Hi,
It just got so hot that the unit kicked out on high head pressure...
Check the outside condenser coil for dirt... wash it out with soap and water so that you can get maximum air flow through it...

AC Kicking OFF Breaker

Sounds like you have a problem with your compressor. If the beaker trips the second the compressor tries to come on hen it is shorted. If it takes a couple of seconds, then your compressor is locked up.

Duo Therm compressor tries to start and kicks out

I don't think these little units have a start capacitor but what I would do is check that the on/off switch wires to make sure they aren't loose. Also check the wires to the compressor for loose wires as well. It is possible that these are the first signs that the compressor is about to fail. They also can act up some when they haven't been used for awhile and then you try and start them up. Try running the unit for a few hours without asking it to cycle. It might just be a sticky valve.

Duo-therm by dometic ac rv unit

I suspect that you have a bad selector switch for the on, off, low fan, high fan operation. If the selector switch is put into the off position everything should stop completely.
