Everything said on the story is true but the bracket that moves the ice door. I did not take the bracket off. All I did was attached the ice door. how do i know if the bracket is set properly? Is there a picture available for me to observe to see if mine is assembled properly? I really do not want to call in a repair person to do a simple thing.

I did respond earlier but when I went back and took the system apart I did find that I did not reassemble the bracket over the solenoid. Thanks for causing me to "think". I will be using this site more often to help me since all of my warrenties have run out.

    Be blessed

There is a solenoid, and a connector that can cause the problem.

Check first that is not an installation problem. Ensure that the bracket that moves the ice door had been re assembled, or the door won't open, and you only hear the solenoid humming when you start the ice dispenser.

I also wanted to quote an interesting story from Partselect website:

"
Disassembled door dispenser, pretty easy, two torx screws on bottom, two on upper part of unit. Slid unit up slightly, it sets over two studs on the top. Unplugged wire connector, set aside unit. Looked on internet for a replacement part. These folks had the easiest to use web site. Found the part, ordered the part, received it next day, but only ordered the least expensive delivery method, since we are both in Florida it worked out well.
I did not know when I ordered this part I would get it this quickly. Because cold air was pouring out of the hole left by the removal of the ice door, I put wide painters tape over the hole on the inside of the freezer door. This greatly reduced the flow of cold air.
After I received the part, I clipped it in place and reassembled the unit, it did not work. The solenoid that moves the door just hummed like it was jammed. I took it back apart and realized that I did not get the bracket that moves the ice door reattached properly. After I made sure the bracket was properly attached, i reassembled the unit and it worked great.

Yes it could be either, BUT I would go back and make sure that everything you did to stop it the first time is undone. Is everything setted correctly? Is the switches in the right place?

Neither the solenoid or the microswitch could cause the problem you had before, so I would suspect something is not right with the ice maker itself.

I bought a used Jenn Air french door refrigerator model #JFC2089HES, but water will not dispense nor will it make ice. It's hooked up to a cold water supply under the sink which is working.

It sounds to me like you're going to have to do some serious electrical checking. There are two electrical solenoid water control valves right behind of the fiber cover where your water line connects to the refrigerator. One solenoid valve is for the water dispenser and the other is for the ice maker. They are mounted together, side by side, on the same metal mounting plate. You two sets of terminals on each solenoid. one set on each solenoid should be hot (register line voltage) when tested between the terminal and ground. the other set of terminals connect two the switches in the water dispenser and ice maker. If have someone push the dispenser switch while you have your ear close to the solenoids, you should hear a clicking sound. I have never seen both of the solenoid valves go bad at the same time. I believe you have a power supply problem to the solenoid assembly itself.

My ice and water dispenser sticks. I have to open

The door flap may not be opening and closing completely thereby trapping the ice. There is a solenoid that operates the door that could have stopped working. Can you hear it?
The hinge on the door could be broken or the bracket it goes in could be broken. You'll have to look to see what's wrong.

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

We have a Jenn Air side by side, model JCD2389GEW. The ice dispensers work, the water does not. This started after I replaced the filter. I've checked and nothing is locked out. When you press the actuator pad to dispense water, you can hear a noise similar to a small pump which I assume is a solenoid attempting to open. Any ideas?

turn freezer to higher temp and turn fresh to lower temp this maximizes airflow into the refrigerator. check the door that regulates airflow into fresh side..see if its stuck closed for some reason. good luck! :)

Ice dispensor

Make sure that the "flapper-door" closes about 3 seconds after the ice dispenser button is released. Mine had a habit of catching and staying OPEN. This allows warm air to enter the dispenser / freezer compartment causing your problem.

If it is stuck you have to take the dispenser apart to loosen / lubricate the flapper door cam to allow for free movement.

This is the worst ICE system I've ever seen for a variety of reasons.

Ice Dispenser "Flapper" is loose--How does it reattach?

the plastic arms that move the flapper door open and closed are broken. I had this happen to me some months back. You will need to buy a repair kit from your local dealer. Explain what is broken and they can look up their part/kit number. You can't buy just the plastic door. Mine cost about $30 but was worth the price of getting my ice maker dispenser operating again. Very minor mechanics required to open this portion of the mechanism. Mostly some removal of screws and a spring or two. Good luck.

You could have a layer of solid ice at the bottom of your icetray which is binding everything up. Remove ice tray and any ice from the bottom. Reinstall and be careful of the connection on the back of the ice tray, you may have to turn it a little to get it to mesh correctly. refill and try. Good luck.
