Insert operating system disk in drive.
Click Start. Click Run. Type
type in command prompt
System file checker will replace the missing files.
download registry cleaner reg in out to clean registry and to fix the error
next time your computer starts go to a command prompt and type chkdsk/f it will ask you if you want to run chkdsk next time your computer starts ..say yes..and then restart the /f command repairs damaged sectors..that might help..
check all other system utilities like msconfig or regedit...if it does restart or shutdown then your system is infected with some kind of virus .....all you have to do is install mcafee 8.5i enterprise version and update it to latest dat file and scan your system thoroughly. this might remove your virus but now you have to fix all corrupted files by running system file checker. go to run type sfc/SCANNOW........this will start checking all corrpted files. for this you need a win xp cd....do reply back
a simple batch file could be used

This batch file accepts the inputs as follows
"down.bat" This will shutdown in 30 secs and is default
"down.bat 120" This shuts down in 2 mins
"down.bat a" This aborts any shutdown operation.
