Hi....take it to a tech to check about the system control chip... the control chip would have gone bad... and they will replace u with a new chip..
or else Try manually moving the head carriage back and forth a few times!
Also check, if there isn't some piece of paper lodged inside, if yes try to remove it carefully!..

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

With the printer on, just lift up the scanner unit (not lid) and the cartridge will come across to the left side of the printer. Then push down on the cartridge and they should pop out. if the cartridge don't move to the left side of the printer, then there could be something stopping it. Good luck

The E5 error is indeed an error regarding the print cartridges. Are you using original Canon ink. If not then the brand you are using may not be compatible. I would do an eeprom reset and see if that helps. Service manual here, will show you how:

SOURCE: Good afternoon, We have a Canon
This is a relatively simple procedure. Two absorber pads are located on the right side of the printer, under the ink cartridges. With the printer on, lift the top to expose the cartridges - they will automatically move out of the way. Now unplug the printer. The pads are now accessible - take them out of the retainers with tweezers or some other pointy tool. To clean them just rinse them with warm water until no ink seeps out.
Now you must reset the waste ink counter:
1. With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding
the Stop/ Reset button.
2. When the Power is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3. Now release the Power button and the Stop / Reset button, the printer will move into a
service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4. When the on/off lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button 4 times for waste ink counter reset.
5. Turn off the printer (it must be turn off) then turn it on again.
