hijacked, today?
this PC is 12 years, old and as such uses BIOS PW methods used back then, (there are 3 ways on all PCs made)
1: pull NVRAM/RTC coin cell battery, (see below) or jumpers.
2: stored, in EEPROM (custom PW chip) very heard to reset,
3: stored in TPM modern PCs, and you are doomed lacking direct OEM intervention (by LAW)

so lets pretend your PC, (ever youtube this all day)
it is Generation 1, NVRAM and jumpers.
if it is GEN1 and I'm not saying it is. and there are 12 motherboards used on any A8 world wide and are NOT the same here is the GEN one methods. (and if fails proves its gen2.)
acid test: 101.
GEN1 (the maybe jumpers but IDK)
1:remove the HUGE battery first, leave it out until PC runs right again, 12years old batteries short, and are CHAOS.
2: AC pack unplugged.
3: dismantle the PC as needed to reach RTC/NVRAM battery.
as seen below. this one is Yellow, can be blue or?
we have no manuals at Toshiba (30 manuals there)
that show any jumpers at all.
4: remove the battery some solder down others just unplug
this A8 from Europe just unplugges.
5: once you are 100% sure this battery (niiMh) and is recharable is pulled, for SURE.
6: short the 2 battery pins on the PCB side, never short a battery ever ok,. just the motherboard side, we short using a jumper wire those 2 abandoned pins,
7: NVRAM is now 100% ERASED ! in 1 nano second .
the PC now how has zero power, and NVRAM is now empty.
What it really does is have random data, if you learn how NVram works.
8: put back the PC, no jumper connected. as above.
9: leave out the HUGE now bad old battery, leave it the h3ll out until such time the PC runs perfectly again on AC. do that now.
10: power on the PC, if PW still set then your PASSword for sure in not stored on NVRAM is it.? no.!
11: weeeeee, I can now get to BIOS F1 page. three cheers.
12:
do the inside BIOS pages set to defaults now.
power on hammer F1, and BIOS now is up on the screen.
do the BIOS time and date now, SAVE and EXIT BOIS and reboot or power cycle the PC.

there is how to do it or learn if your PW is in side that NVRAM.
if the PC was parked for months on end you need to recharge it per the manual, OK or the PC can not be used. the RTC NVRAM battery must be charged first.
the battery charge only happens turned on, (oddly) as the manual clearly states in Chapter 6 page 5 below.
so do details HELP?

a tech to tech answer would be.
remove all power in and outside to the PC.
there at 3 power sources some are 4 but this PC is 3.
the way all day for caps to discharge, inside PC. 1hr may do it> who knows,
no man on earth knows the cap discharge rate.
so a SAVVY tech knows to short the old battery pins. RTC battery out. for sURE.
this resets it in 1 nanosecond.
this causes the NVram to forget every thing IT EVER KNEW

the tree on the left is TPM (win8 up)
or the MAGICAL EEPROM PW chip , horror.

  • Anonymous Nov 23, 2018

the PW on all PC if this era was located in 1 of 2 places.
NVRAM or EEPROM , and the latter does not reset easy nor are the jumper for EEROM>
only risky hacks work on EEPROM based GEN2 PCs

Hey Edmore,
Sometimes you can remove the battery for a few minutes..Did you supply the password??... shut down the computer... remove the battery, wait for several minutes... reinstall, then restart..see if this works...

SOURCE: Bios Password

From what I remember a bios password is easy to remove in some Toshiba laptop models. You just remove the battery. Pull the RAM out (make sure you are grounded when doing this--at a minimum don't walk around or shuffle your feet while touching the RAM) Under the RAM there should be a piece of mylar tape. (shiny brown or black) That should expose 2 or 3 solder welds where no component is located. Take a paperclip and make contact with the welds for at least 10 seconds. This should short out where the bios is stored.

For the HDD issue this might work:
Try F8 before the system POST(s) to get to ADMIN account in safe mode. Then go to control panel and user accounts and remove the password. This only works depending upon your OS. Good luck.

JAN 2018 post. answer above forgets the owner has no PW.
wow. that said that clearly to me above;
that PC has rechargeable battery deep inside. (oddly)
the above poster only fixes Change PW never LOST PW.
ok?

Lost PW or dead battery fixes.
this pc , turn it on, and let it charge the RTC battery deep inside,
Thoshiba is the only PC that does this Ni-Mh battery deal.
and only charges turned on.
after charging this battery below
turn PC off then on the see if the PC asks for BIOS admin Password, if yes post back or read my 2 other A8 posts here
with the 12 steps to clear this PW. ok,
if the NVRAM scrambles (as all do A8 if parked in shelf for say a year) then the NVRAM scrambles and now the PW is lost.
so it ask for PW, if you
power on and hammer the F1 key, BIOS may POP to 1st screen
then hit BIOS reset key for, return to default settings.
then exist and save.

proof

the USA A8 manual quote, read that carefully !
rtc2-p4jtowbtouygind4aa4y4bam-3-0_0.jpg that last line above, is OMG , really? and is true.... must be left on for say 24hours, 1hr min, I guess.
also the battery this old will be bad, In most cases,
sorry never seen a 12 year old Ni-Mh any good anywhere.

BIOS PASSWORD

This is a Toshiba bug.

Find an authorised repair center here:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/gaspLocator.jsp?subs=tais

They'll fix it for free. Should take them only a few seconds so try to convince them to repair it while you wait to save yourself time.
