How to repair paddle inside drum paddle that fell off

To replace this "paddle" (It's callde a baffle), you'll need to access the outside of the tumbler (drum), by lifting the top.

Begin by removing the door. Remove the two hinge screws. You will then be able to rock the door and hinge out of the slot in the front panel. Next, remove the cover plates just opposite the hinges.

Now you can pull the front panel off the retaining clips and rock it downward, away from the rest of the cabinet. Once it clears the top, you can lift it off the bottom hooks. Just set it aside.

You will now see two screws (hex-head, 5/16 inch), just under the corners of the dryer top. Remove them and rotate the brackets that hook into the top. Removing the brackets will allow you to now swing the top upwards to expose the tumbler.

Just turn the tumbler until you can see the screw holes for the babble holding screws. You may get lucky and find the three baffle screws in the bottom of the cabinet. Re-install, check the others, and re-assemble the dryer in reverse order, and you're done!

Inside tumbler is loose - how do you tighten

If the tumbler is loose and you can move it from side to side the bearings in the rear of the drum may be going bad. The bearings aren't an expensive part, the job is just time consuming because you need to remove the outer casing of the dryer and take the drum out. The sides of the dryer stay together the front should come straight off and if the top doesn't come straight off it will tip back on hinges so the wires stay intact. You may need two people to replace the bearings once you get the drum off because they are generally screwed in from inside the drum.

One of the three bars inside the dryer drum is loose and making a loud banging sound. How do you access the drum?

You will have to open the top panel.

UN-PLUG / secure input power for the dryer

Check behind the control panel for mounting screws for the top panel to the main chassis and remove them. Then using a putty or butter knife release the two clips inside the FRONT of the top panel about 3 inches from the corners by pressing FIRMLY against EACH clip and lifting EACH side of the top until it is free. After releasing the two clips the top should pivot up so that you have access to the drum.

Reassemble when complete and turn on power.
(Top locking clips.. just press down on the front corners.. if the clips don't quite clear.. depress them and push down on each corner to lock them.)

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a Kenmore 70 Series gas dryer, model 76712691. The dryer has 3 plastic ''tumblers'' inside the dryer, to help the clothes tumble. Two of the tumblers have fallen off inside, leaving big holes inside...

Pull the dryer away from the wall, there is no bottom on the dryer, so the screws should be on the floor.
You can then pop the lid up from the front and fold it back. When you do, you will see the drum. Roll the drum around until you see the holes and reattach the tumblers.
You can also access the drum from below. Tip the dryer on its back and you can see the drum from the bottom.
Good luck.

Dryer Paddle Loose

Take the four screws, out of the door and remove it. The front of the dryer will fold down and lift off, you will be able to see in side the dryer. If you want to lift the top remove the screws that are now exposed. Along with the brackets the top will now lift up.

This should allow you to access the tumbler.
