How do I get my games that work on XP work on Vista Home?

Unless your PC is fairly new you will not be able to run Windows Vista in the first place even if you could get a legal copy of it for free which I know of no way of doing. Go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx and see if your PC will even run Vista. The upgrade advisor will tell you if your PC can even run Vista. You have XP which is a stable OS after many years of updates. My advice is to stay as you are until you buy a new PC. When you do purchase Windows 7 and forget Vista. I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and it is superior to Vista hands down.

Most likely the issue you are having is your computer is under powered to run both Vista Home Premium and the game. Vista is heavy on the resources and since you are running Vista Home Premium you will need more then some running the Basic version.

So the easy fix would be to up you memory upto 2 gigs. Note best practice for Vista is to have atlest 2 gigs of ram in the system.

If you still have trouble I would test the game on another Vista computer with a 2.0 or higher CPU to see if it still has trouble. If it does not then most likely it will not work on your computer.

Also if you did an upgrade from XP to Vista you might have so Windows issue. So if the test on the other computer worked you might try a fresh install of Vista to resolve any possible Windows issues.

I think your hard drive which is a SATA drive, needs to be formatted specially for Vista.
you need to find out the make and model of your hard drive,and then you can download a hard drive formatting utility program from the hard drive manufacturers website.
The hard drive is accessed from under the keyboard on this model.

If it just started to do this due to some update, a simple System Restore to the day before this started.

Instead of dealing with such workarounds, it is probably better to use Parental Controls (Vista), the replacement for it http://download.live.com/familysafety (made for Windows 7, compatible with XP) or software like Cybersitter, netnanny etc.

Anyway hopefully a system restore will work, but the update will return (if you want to keep the system fully updated as you say)

in XP Home individual updates can be removed by going to Add/Remove Programs and clicking Show Updates (not recommended unless you are certain what updates do and how it will affect the system)
