Hitachi Dryer , Pulley mounting

I opened the DE550 electric dryer in order to clean it out . I took off the back cover ,loosened the drum and the belt in order blow out the loose fluff. The white belt tensioning pulley was then loose and so I removed it from its mounting on the motor base . Now after cleaning and refitting the drum in position I find that I am unable to refit the pulley as I can't see how the wire pulley support it is to be mounted onto the base of the motor. Don, the drum on this model rotates on a bearing in back. This is most likely where the sqeeling is comming from. You will have to service this from the front. Should be 2 screws just above the door on each side. Remove them and the top will lift up. Slide the top off forward. Once the top is off, you will see a couple of screws holding the the front panel and door assy. on. One on each side inside front panel. Unplug the door harness and remove the front panel and door. Undo the belt and the drum should pull straight out. Watch out not to get the belt hung on the motor. Now you will see the rear bearing and shaft bracket that the drum rides on. It may need to be replaced or just lubed up real good. Catriver.

I figured this one out...there are two pairs slots...the tab of the idler pulley goes in the right slot near the motor and the idler pulley goes off to the left.

SOURCE: kENMORE SERIES 80 DRYER..The Tensioner use it or not and how?

To fit the new belt, you will need the idler pulley (tensioner)...

The idler pulley fits in the slots on the bottom of the cabinet (in front of the motor) with the wheel or glide facing the left side. Place the belt (grooves inward) around the drum. Pull the belt through the middle of the idler pulley from the left side. Once the belt is pulled through the idler pulley, pull it around the motor pulley (this should force the idler pulley to "open up" and add tension).

If you still need help, I will try to provide you with a diagram shortly.
Good luck!

Dryer stopped spinning. Opened top and found thin broken belt. How do you reattach new belt to drum and pulley?

http://www.applianceaid.com/images/belt-config.JPG

If you hear a loud bang while your dryer is working, and you notice that the
drum has stopped turning, chances are the drivebelt has snapped.
Fortunately, replacing the belt is a fairly straightforward operation that
can be handled with a few simple tools.
First, unplug the dryer. Lift the lint-screen cover and pull out the lint screen
If your dryer has a lint screen on the inside of the door, skip this step.
Then remove the two screws that are under the cover. To unlatch the dryer top,
insert a thin-blade putty knife between the top and front panel,
about 2 1/2 in. in from one corner. Push in on the knife to release the locking
clip, lift the corner, then release the clip on the other side. Swing the top
up and lean it against the wall.
Next, move to the lower toe panel. Slip the putty knife between the lower panel
and the door panel at one side and twist the knife to release the clip
Then release the opposite clip and lift the panel up and off the hinge springs.
To support the dryer drum while the belt is being replaced, place scrap wood
under the front of the drum.
Loosen the two screws at each side of the bottom of the front panel.
Move to the top of the panel and remove the screws from the inside of the
cabinet that hold the front panel to the sides.
Slide the old belt off the drum.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the belt
Lean the front panel out slightly and allow the drum to rest on the scrap wood
support. Drop the new dryer belt between the front panel and the drum, and
loop it over the drum. Then, lift the drum slightly while pushing the front
panel back into position.
Replace the screws at the top inside of the front panel, tighten the lower panel
screws and remove the scrap wood from under the drum. Check to make sure that
the rear drum seal fits properly over the lip on the rear bulkhead.
Position the new belt where the old belt was, with the grooved side of the belt
facing down.
Now, move to the motor area and pull out the old belt. To route the new belt
around the idler and drive pulley, first pass the entire belt, doubled up,
under the idler pulley. Then, push the idler belt toward the motor, slip the
belt around the motor pulley and release the tension on the idler pulley.

Open the dryer door and rotate the drum counterclockwise a few times to make
sure the belt is tracking properly. Lower the top and press down at each
corner to engage the clips. Lift the lint-screen cover, replace the two screws
and reinstall the lint screen. Finally, secure the lower front panel and turn
on the dryer for a test.

How to Install a Dryer Belt on Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet Dryers

This advice is for dryer belt replacement on most Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model dryers. If in doubt, please provide me with a complete model number of your dryer and I will determine if these instructions apply.

In order to replace the drive belt on a Whirlpool Duet/Kenmore Elite dryers, you need to perform the following steps:

1. UNPLUG the dryer before servicing. Dangerous voltage is still present inside the dryer even when it is turned off.

2. Open the door and remove the lint screen. IMPORTANT: You will not be able to remove the air blower cover with the lint screen in place.

3. Remove the lower toe panel located directly below the door by loosening the screws under the bottom front edge. With the screws removed, the panel will drop down, then come off.

NOTE: Propping the two front feet of the dryer up can provide better access to the screws (a 2x4 works well).

4. Disconnect the auto dry sensor plug (usually yellow wires with a white plug to the right of the blower assembly) and any ground wires that may be connected to the front panel.

5. Remove the air blower cover by locating and removing the mounting screws.

NOTE: This is a good time to clean the blower fan housing, squirrel cage motor and dryer interior cabinet.

6. Remove the top panel of the dryer by locating and removing the screws holding the panel in place in the rear of the dryer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then come off.

7. Locate the two screws that hold the operator console in place. There should be one on each side under the top panel. Remove the screws and carefully lift the panel straight up.

NOTE: You do not need to disconnect the ribbon cables. Carefully lay the console across the top of the dryer out of the way.

8. Disconnect the door switch connector plug and remove the dryer front panel by locating the four screws that hold it in place. Loosen the two screws along the bottom of the panel and leave in place. Remove the top two screws and lift up and turn the whole front panel slightly counter-clockwise to release the drum supports from the dryer drum.

NOTE: Make sure the dryer door is closed when removing the front panel to avoid damaging the door hinges.

9. You can leave the drum in place to install the new belt. Loop the belt onto the dryer drum with the ribbed side facing the drum. Reach in behind the air blower with both hands and pull the idler pulley to the right with your right hand to release the tension. With your left hand loop the belt over the drive motor pulley, then release the idler pulley making sure the belt rests on the pulley. You should feel the belt tighten with tension.

NOTE: If you need further clarification on how to properly route the dryer belt you can go to repairclinic.com and click on the "Repair Help" link at the top of the page. On the following page, locate the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section. Refer to diagram K.

10. Reinstall the front panel by turning it slightly counter-clockwise and aligning the front drum supports under the front of the drum. Once the supports are under the drum, turn the front panel clockwise and lift up, placing it on the bottom two screws. Reinstall and tighten the top two screws.

11. Reinstall the door switch connector plug and reinstall the operator console. Use caution not to put too much stress on the ribbon cables.

12. Reinstall dryer top panel.

13. Reinstall air blower cover and reconnect the auto dry sensor and ground wire.

14. Reinstall toe panel by inserting the top portion first and pushing up. Push lower portion of the panel in place and reinstall screws.

I know this may seem like a lot, but its actually fairly simple if you follow the steps provided. The trickiest part will be getting the dryer belt installed correctly and removing and reinstalling the front panel. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Dryer stopped working?

  1. From the top of the dryer, remove the lint trap. Using your screwdriver, unscrew the assembly that houses the lint screen and remove it from the dryer, setting it aside.
  2. Using your screwdriver as a lever, insert it under the front right side of the dryer, between the top and the body. Press down to force the top slightly up from the body. Repeat this process on the left side, and lift the top off the dryer.
  3. Remove the lower panel from the dryer by inserting the screwdriver into each side and rotating to release the clips that hold it in place. Slide your phone book under the now-exposed dryer drum so that the drum will be supported.
  4. Loosen the screws at the bottom of the front cover, but do not remove them (this allows access to the belt without requiring you to remove and replace the entire front cover). Move to the top of the dryer, and remove the screws holding the front of the dryer in place. (These will be located at the top, behind the front.) Tip the cover toward you, exposing the drum, and slip the broken belt off the drum without fully removing. Slip the new belt over the drum, and lift up on the drum while returning the cover to the closed position. Replace the screws to the front cover and tighten the lower screws. Remove your phone book from its position under the drum.
  5. Check the rear drum seal to the back of the dryer, and position the new belt identical to the old, with the textured side facing down.
  6. Directing your attention to the motor area, remove the old belt and feed the new belt through, passing the entire belt, doubled over, under the idler pulley. Push the belt toward the motor pulley, placing the belt around it, and allow the tension to release on the idler pulley.
  7. With your hand inside the dryer drum, rotate the drum counterclockwise to ensure that the belt has been properly installed. Replace the top of the dryer, exerting downward pressure for a snug fit, followed by replacing the lint screen assembly, and the lint trap, and then replacing the lower front cover.
  8. Run the dryer for several minutes to ensure that the dryer is operational and that you have installed your belt correctly.

Changing dryer belt on kirkland/whirlpool dryer took apart dryer but dont see where belt suppose to mount.

Hello. The belt goes around the tub and the tension pulley. In fact, it is always a good idea to replace both the belt and the idler/tension pulley at the same time. J.

If you want a schematic go to searsdirect.com and enter your model number. J.

Replace dryer belt

Pull the front panel off, remove the top screws and tilt top back. Rout the new belt around drum at the old wear spot with the grooved side against the drum. Next remove the back access door and rout the belt around the idler pulley and motor pulley. There is only one way to do this and get proper tension on the belt.
Also, when you order the belt, ask if it has a belt routing diagram on the belt package.

Drum doesn't turn in maytag neptune MDE9700AYW

Just remove the screws around the vent tube in the back and you can see the belt tensioner laying there on the floor of the dryer.
Most likely someone turned the drum the wrong direction and the belt came off.
The belt goes through the opening in the tensioner and under the idler pulley and then onto the motor drive pulley. Make sure to have the tensioner mounted into the floor first.
It just slides over into a slot and then over to the other side as tension is put on it.
