Take the remote to where you bought it and see if it works on the same set there---if new this is covered by the warranty---remote can be tested to KNOW if its the problem or not.

Set could also have a problem with the remote receiver in the front of it being bad or the lens for it being covered.

There is a code for every television make so go through the manual so that you can know the code to use for your television.

i have a new remote but i cannot use it.there are brand new batteries,

check the website for the remote you have bought and enter the codes for newer models of your make of tv keep trying 1 of them should work but might not give you all functions like teletext

its th problem of the remote sensor in the tv ,u have to change the sensor.

If you can return the remote, I'd pick up a harmony remote from Logitech (they all work fine). It doesn't use codes, just the model numbers of the device. They support 55,000 devices and I have never found a device that they won't control (sorry, I know this isn't the advice you were looking for, but this will make your life easier).
