Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
I was play my PS3 when we had a power outage (summer storms). When the power came back I booted up my PS3 and got a red screen saying "a serious error has occurred please contact support" in a couple different lanuages. I heard it might be a problem with the hard drive and ordered an external enclosure to format the HDD on my PC. Will that help the problem or will I have to send it in for repair?
Maybe it will help, but possibly it's a problem with your internal hardware (such as RAM modules or GPU unit) .
Try formatting the Hard Disk in a PC, then put it back to PS3 system . it will ask you to format it (again), the do it .
else, contact Sony support centre for possible hardware issues checking, certainly it's a problem with you internal hardware and there's nothing to do inside the firmware (once it doesn't even startup) .
if formatting you HD in a PC works, please consider :
