SOURCE: How to change a water pump on a 1999 Buick Century 3100?

the water pump on the 3.1 isnt to hard to change ...

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the drive belt guard.
  4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the drive belt. This should help keep the pulley from turning as the bolts are loosened.
  5. Remove the drive belt. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulley.
  6. Remove the water pump bolts and separate the pump from the engine front cover.

SOURCE: When replacing water pump on

No. But if your that far into the engine it is very little more that you need to remove to replace it. If it has never been replaced and you have more than 50,000 miles I would recommend replacing it.

SOURCE: I would like to find something on the web that

This guy did a really nice job showing how to do this this.

After the new water pump is installed fill th cooling system. There may be two bleeder valves one for sure is on the pipe that comes out of the back of the water pump and there may be one on the T-stat housing where the upper hose attaches. Open both of those until antifreeze come out of them.

Start the engine. Top off coolant as necessary and periodically open the bleeder screws until coolant comes out. Let the engine idle until it has come up to operating temp and the fans come on. Put the radiator cap back on and your good to go.

Exactly which pulley is my water pump? (1999 pontiac grand prix 3100 sfi v6)??????????????

The power steering pump is dead center on the top of the motor. If your standing on the passenger side the water pump is the next pulley to the right. The serpentine belt will go over the power steering pulley, under the water pump pulley, and then around the a/c compressor.

I have a 1997 dodge grand caravan with a 3.8L I replaced the radiator cooling fan relay switch and fuses but when idling for more than 5 mins. the van starts overheating

Water pump impeller could be bad or thermostat is stuck shut. I would change thermostat first, easy to change, cost under $10.00 Water pump is hard to change in this van, you have to remove right tire, then inside wheel well, then loosen 3 top motor mount bolts which will lower engine so you can get to water pump and tensioner.

Need to replace water pump

It's not an impossible job, but too long to write out instructions. I suggest that you get an inexpensive manual for your car (haynes is about $20) and follow instructions there. If you run into any specific problems, give me a shout! (just curious ...why are you changing the pump?)
