If you've recently repositioned the unit it could be positioned in an enclosure to tight to allow air circulation or too close to a heating vent.

Also clean the coils with a broom to ensure proper ventilation. Or the thermostat is going or gone.

If the compressor does not start, or turn off erratically, then check and eventually replace the relay.

If instead the compressor is always on, and getting very hot, then check the thermostat, and ensure that the defrost system is working.

If the compressor is running all the time you probably have a locked rotor, with compressor motor shorted internally or with a short to ground on compressor wiring harness. When this happen you often have to replace the compressor. The compressor is often covered with five years warranty.

I have a hoshizaki km 255bah compressor start then quits

Is the compressor overheating when this happens? Feel the top of the compressor when this is happening and tell me if the top of the compressor becomes extremely hot to the point that you cannot keep your hand on the compressor. Reason I ask you to do this is that it is possible that the compressor is short cycling because of a defective start relay and/or run capacitor. Let me know if the compressor is overheating of simply turning itself off. I will post a service manual if interested but would like to e-mail you the service manual for your Hoshizaki KM-255BAH because of copyright issues. You may contact me HERE if you like. Thanks Sea Breeze

Not getting cold enough on the inside... the exterior too hot to touch.. why could this be?

Compressor relay could be fried. Feel the compressor. If it is too hot to touch then check your relay. The relays contacts could be welded together making bot windings stay powered up and overheating the compressor causing compressor shutdown on overload.

The temperature control is not working. It is stuck at 0. The freezer is not cooling. However, the lights are on inside.

COOLING

Dust on the condenser coils can cause overheating, observe safety precautions then clean coils. Switch off the unit before you clean them. If the problem persists, test the compressor for overheating. Overheating will cause many problems with cooling ability. Leave the unit unplugged for 3 hours and plug it in again. If it starts working, the compressor is probably overheating (Observe cautions with food going bad). A simple cause of the problem might also be that there is not enough airflow Lack of airflow is the number one cause of compressor problems and thus an owner purchasing another unit for hundreds of dollars when you can fix it for free. There should be at least several inches distance between the sides and walls/cupboards/ceiling.

Electrical

There is an in-line fuse mounted in the line supplying the power to the ice-maker. It is in the wire clipped to the side, change out this fuse asap. It is actually a 20-amp fused, associated with the grounded electrical supply.

PARTS

You may order parts very cheap from here

TIME TO CHANGE YOUR FILTER

While your on the back of the system, please check the filter. There is a filter in the back of the fridge in the upper right hand side. If you do not change it, it will slow down the frig and burn it out permanently.

Reaons for hussman freezer compressors failuer Model No:NLD 2

Normally compressors fail due to overheating. But just like any machine that may run 24 housr a day 7 days a week, the compressor may just wear out. Overheating is caused primarily by stopped up condenser coils. The condenser coil is the radiator like object that sits close to the compressor and dissapates heat created by the compressor. Also if the fan behind the condenser coil fails because of an obstruction or fan motor burnout the heat will not be dissapated properly. The compressor has protection built in that should shut it off during an overheating situation, but it can't protect it over a period of time where the compressor keeps trying to start and shuts down due to overheating. If you look at the condenser coil in many cases you will find dust and or grease build up so dense that no air flows through the coil. This is simply neglect or not knowing that the coil needs to be cleaned periodically. Also, if you have a refrigerant (freon) leak, your compressor will overheat. The cold returning freon helps to keep the internal components of the compressor cool as well as keeping the oil inside the compressor churning up onto the internal components. If you have a leak, it is not sufficient to just add freon every once in a while. Leaks need to be fixed by finding the leak and welding the leak shut. No refrigeration system should require "gassing up" other than the initial charge of refrigerant. Overheating can also be caused by a lack of air flow through the condenser coils because there is no space around the machine for air to flow into and out of the compressor compartment. If you have recently replace a compressor and it goes bad again, it may be burnout residue from the previous compressor that clogs the lines after a burnout. I hope this answers your question.

Freezer temperate has dropped to -8 but is still working and making ice cubes. food is not solidly frozen. fridge temperature is 3 and ok. repair man could not find anything obviously wrong but said the...

yes the compressor seems to be good but it has an internal overload inside the compressor if that collaps your compressor is busted but try to ajust the temp..or reduse the refrigerant charge to minimal the running hour of the compressor.

Chest freezer, stopped freezing, Ptc relay attached to compressor has overheated to point of partially melting.

Some of the PTC relays just give out for no apparent reason. (the brown ones more than any other) But in your case you can see physical signs of overheating. I would suspect the compressor has seized up, or has a shorted winding.

The fridge/freezer is making buzzing noises that go on for 10/15 seconds every 5 minutes or so. Both fridge and freezer have heated up to 49 and 26 degrees through the night. Help!

ur compressor is trying to start but the safety is turning it off may have a bad compressor but try this first might get it working again -(safety click sound) disconnects power when compressor gets to hot or is drawing to many amps--stuck--comp gets hot unplug unit and clean with a vacuum carefully under where comp and fan are this is the condenser area after cleaning or 1 hr plug in and check for start and that condenser fan is working may be reason for overheating-if still not working compressor needs service

Does not cool and compressor relay keeps intermittently buzzing every 1 to 2 minutes. Condenser coils are cleaned and when you check across the overload protector pins there is no continuity.

When there's not continuity across the overload is because the compresor overheated , it could be the relay or the compressor that is burned out or stuck .I would let the compresor coold down for a few hours (unplugging the unit) and replace the relay (no more than $20) and if still having problems the compressor needs to be replaced.

There is a smell of smoke from my whilpool refridgerator could this be a problem with the compressor

The compressor could be overheated or a condenser or evaporator motor could be going bad. Also I have seen a defrost heater burn out and cause smoke.

Kenmore Chest Freezer

Believe it or not, but it is normal. Especially when just turned on. As the internal temp. gets colder so will the temp. on the side get cooler.
