Message counter displays more than I have saved

I think you might be confusing the counter that keeps rack of caller ID information, and the counter that tracks messages stored in the answering machine - two different things, different purposes.

The answering machine part displays "new messages", but can store "old messages". For the caller ID part, look for a button on the handset that says "caller ID" - hit that, and then there will be a scroll up/down pair of buttons - you can look through your received caller IDs. Their may be a delete button on the phone (It's not clear what model you have), which will allow deleting that caller ID out of memory, but if not, having viewed the numbers, your "20" on the message counter should reduce.

It will not let someone leave a message on our answering machine??

In reading this issue I am not sure if you are referring to your voicemail that is provided by your cellular provider, or if cell phone callers are unable to leave a message on your land line answering machine, so I will answer both of those just incase. If you are referring to your cellular service and callers are not able to leave you a voice message, then there could be a couple of issues at hand here. The first of which is that your voice mail box may be full and cannot accept any more messages, If this is the case then you will need to delete some of the older messages by pressing and holding # 1 on your wireless handset and selecting the messages that you want to delete from the voicemail system. If that is not the issue then you will need to place a test call to your cellular device and let it rollover to voicemail and see what it is that the callers are being told. Sometimes there will be an error message. If this is the case then you will want to write that message information down and contact your service provider so that they can resolve the issue. If you call your cellular device and let it rollover to voicemail and the system tells you to enter the subscribers telephone or mailbox number, then what you have is called a "round tree message" and this means that there is an issue with the server that handles the voicemail for that celluar provider and their technical support team will handle the issue by reseting your voicemail. If they do this you may lose all of your messages, that is the downside. The upside is that callers will then be able to leave you messages.

If this is referring to your land line answering machine, I would recommend unpluging it, letting it sit for a minute and plugging it back in. You may also want to make sure that you do not have caller ID call block initated on your home phone, which will tell callers that there call has been delivered successfully but the party they are calling does not accept calls from parties who have their number blocked.

We have the Norstar Meridian (M7310)telephone system in our non-profit organization. Recently there was a change in our service providers and since that time we have had nothing but problems with our...

Could be two things, there could be a general delivery mailbox attached to the system which is mail box 100, or the new service provider has a off premisis voicemail attached to the lines. if there is VM on the lines you should get a stuttered dial tone on the line indicating that you have a voice mail.

Message Box is full. How do I erase?

Erase Messages
Single Messages
You can erase a message itself, leaving the Caller ID information.
• While the message is playing, press and release DELETE. The unit erases the current message and announces, "Message erased."
All Messages
You can also erase all the old messages only, leaving the new messages and Caller ID information.
While the unit is in ready-to-answer mode, press and hold DELETE until the unit announces, "Messages erased."
• New messages can not be erased in this way. To erase new messages, play them then press DELETE during play back.

Message box says full, but machine shows 0 messages

Do you also have a telephone-company provided answering feature on your line (such as Verizon's home voice mail)? I've known other people who got this service as part of a package from their phone company without realizing it, and had just the same trouble. Your callers may be reaching that instead of your answering machine.

Most companies alert you to waiting messages through "stutter dialtone." When you pick up your handset you'll hear two or three short bursts of dialtone before it goes steady. This is your signal to pick up your voicemail messages. Are you hearing this?

Check with your telephone service provider if you are unsure. If your telephone answering machine says it hasn't taken any messages, the full box message must be coming from them.
