SOURCE: Dehumidifier
Most dehumidifiers have a "Frost Guard" mounted on the condensor coil. If frost accumulates on the condensor coil the frost guard turns the compressor off until the frost melts, then comes back on again. For the dehumidifier to work properly, the surrounding (ambient), temperature must be higher than 65 degress. This temperature allows the moisture in the air to condense on the coils and drip into the reservoir without freezing up on the condensor coil. Also, if the humidity is too low, (below 45%), the same condition will occur. So it will help to keep the parameters in mind when you have this issue.
Thank you for your allowing me to advise you on this issue.

SOURCE: runs but does not collect water
It is possible that the cooling fins are not working due to insufficient coolant or the compressor system is faulty. Basically the fan pulls air across a cooling fin . Moisture from the air then condensates and falls into the pan as water. The air is then heated before it exits into the surroundings. The fact that there is no water collecting suggests that the cooling stage is not working. I see from other posts that there is a fuse somewhere. Maybe this fuse is blown and is associated with the cooling compressor..hope this helps

Make sure your coils are clean and the fan and compressor are running. If they are ,then you have lost some or all of the charge. There is no low pressure switch so the unit will keep running. Take it to a repair shop and have the leak fixed and charged. Don't throw the unit away.
SOURCE: unit runs but no water collect
I unscrew the cover were's the air is ****'s inside and I just clean with water pressure.I beleive I have to do this every six month. The problem was;no more water collect, less air came out and the unit was very hot.Only clean the filter is not enough!!

If the room tempature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifers work below a room temo of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensot from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.
Hi,
There are many reasons why a dehumidifier will not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier
