Should motor make humming noise - instead of making no noise - if starter Capacitor is the only thing faulty ?

1. Turning on switch does not start or nor does it even make any humming noise 2. Power plug and motor continutiy checks OK. Live to Neutral pins record low resistance 3. 220nF starter Capacitor registers -1 suggest it is faulty 4. Should not the motor at least make a humming noise even if Capacitor is faulty ?

SOURCE: 1994 Jeep Cherokee will not start or even crank

I had the same problem with my 94 jeep and i ended up finding out what was causing the problem was the starter relay in the fuse box under hood, i believe its the second or third relay. Try turning the key to the start position and leave it there and poop open ur hood and manuelly start the relay

SOURCE: "Humming" or "bearing" type noise in left front at highway speeds

That's a hub bearing. Replace the one that's doing it. I'm assuming this 'roar' is coming from the front, NOT the rear.

SOURCE: Turn ignition key but won't start..All power on, is it starter?

Can be a Junk Relay, access is limited, but giving the Starter a "crack" with a mallet, often cures the problem temporarily. But check the Battery terminals, and Cable to the Starter solenoid ,first for tightness and security.

Ford expedition noise

humming could be the motor turning round but not engaging with the flywheel. you can check this by hitting the starter with a spanner a few times. if it starts up after you have a sticking solenoid. had to do this a few times my self to get engine started. replace starter as soon as possible if it works. usually happens if you not driven car for awhile.. or you do a lot of starting and small trips.

Wont start. Starter tries to engage but theres a "whirring" noise instead of the car starting

Sounds like starter solenoid is failing to kick in. The whirring is most likely the starter motor turning, but the teeth aren't engaging on the flywheel ring gear due to failed solenoid.

You either have a bad starter or ignigtion switch. When you turn the key on does everything else come on? I would check the starter first if you have power to everything.

My truck was driving fine, stopped at a gas station for coffee. when i went to start my truck nothing, i have power on instrument panel but it wont turn at all, like its a dead battery. I tried to have it...

The object in question is the solenoid starter switch to the starter motor. Since the starter requires a very large current the switch must have a very large pressure and contact to give that extra connection. So if this humming , it can also be that the starter has failed , is not contacting with the brush and so not turning.
You will need to check the voltage to the starter to confirm, if so repair or replace starter/ starter solenoid as required.

My 2004 330ci won't start, does not turn over. The battery is fine, all electrical in the car work fine, plus trying to jump car does not work & a green light is showing on the battery in the truck....

If the battery is fine, why jump it? Faulty thinking to state or think: all electrical in the car work fine. If it did the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The starter motor work on electrical...not all is fine.

check: 1) 60a starter fuse/relay. 2) voltage to starter when turning key to activate starter motor, this will rule out ignition switch or relay. 3) apply direct voltage to starter motor to detect bad starter motor.

Motor doesn't start makes ticking noise

It is most likely the starter, make sure the battery is up to par,and if so,the starter needs to be replaced.
