Question about General Electric Clothes Dryer Knob - WE1X1208
I think your switch is mounted to the back panel and has fallen off. The stem that holds the knob is still there, the switch has just fallen down into the space behind the back panel. You can remove the back panel with 3 screws across the top rear (unplug it first!). I'm afraid you will find the back panel requires replacement to solve this. It is about $80, and all the switches will have to be re-mounted on the new panel.
