SOURCE: master vs. repeater confusion

The master/repeater selection is for the purpose of determining which display is in control of the waypoint and route database.

Turn on both units and let them boot up. Do not answer the master/repeater question until both are on. Then press "Set as master" on the preferred one.

The units remember individually if they were set as a master or repeater the last time they were on. If they are powering up to find themselves in a different configuration than they were previously in, that will prompt the whole master/repeater thing to happen.

SOURCE: cut antenna wire raymarine 300waas gps

That unit uses a TNC connector. Just have someone install a new one on the end of the cable. IT's a little more difficult than a F connector for a TV but not rocket science. You can also send it in to Mid-Shore Electronics. Just google them and get their number. They have alot of experience with the older stuff.

Raymarine "DSM connection lost"

Murray,

Has the DSM and the E120 software been upgraded to the latest software: 4.12 for the DSM and 5.52 for the E120?

Try this first. You can download the software off Raymarine.com and burn each to a separate compact flash card.

I have seen many problems like you are experiencing solved with this simple change.

If this doesn't solve the problem, the DSM will have to go back to Raymarine for repair.

Our e120 has no boat recognition. We cannot make it find our boat in order to use it.

Do you have fix on the GPS?
Have you selected "find boat" and not "cursor" (bottom left button under the screen)? If you'r still stuck try a master reset (factory reset) by going into the menu and select system setup - factory reset.

Raymarine e series malfunction

I have found that many of the issues you are experiencing are a result of operator error (no offense). For the system you have described, you will definitely have a network switch which interfaces everything. Is it possible that the network switch is powered from a source that you dont always turn on? In other words, if the system has multiple breakers and the network sw is tied to one of them, using only one display for example may leave the switch without power and give the error messages you described. Bottom line......BE SURE that the entire system is powered on. Another possible cause is master vs slave. One of the two displays is the master. If you power the system up in the wrong order or without the network switch in the loop, the slave unit will automatically ask you to set it as the master. NEVER do this. Changing the master will result in data loss as you described. Finally, if all of this checks out, verify the software in your displays (the version will appear in the bottom right during start up). Your software should be at least V4.29 but there is a newer version available so if you need to upgrade make sure you get the most recent. Good luck
