This may be solved by doing a reset to the camera. There is a setting in the menu called Initialize, and it should reset the camera back to factory default.

Word of warning though. You will lose any pictures on it when you do this, so download them first. You will probably have to re-enter the date and time after this as well.

The flash getting stuch is a common problem with the Canon Rebel ( or Kiss) series. Set the camera in Auto mode in a dim place. Hold the flash unit gently from both sides and try to help it open while pressing the photo button. Do not use force if this does not work the first time - try it again.

Once open, clean the sides of the flash unit in case some dust is causing this problem.

On auto my flash wont pop up and it keeps cumming up ro6

In Auto the flash won't pop up unless the camera decides it needs it. Try the P mode.

The r06 isn't an error. It's simply telling you how many more pics you can take in a burst before the buffer fills up.

Wanting to use add on flash

The "error 99" is a general error on Canon cameras meaning "something's gone wrong and I don't know what to do about it". If you get them all the time, the camera is effectively dead and must go back to Canon for a service repair (circa £175 if I remember correctly).

If the error 99 only happens when you try to pop up the flash, but otherwise the camera can take good pictures, then yes, an external flash unit could well solve your problem. With an external flash on the hot-shoe, the internal flash is completely bypassed and the camera will never try to pop it up.

I recommend taking your camera to a shop such as Jessops and ask to try out a flash gun to be sure.

Sony DSC H3 Flash not poping up?

Dear Frac1969,
There are many reasons when flash isn't poping up. Flash selection could be OFF from menu or its setting is Auto. Are you geting any error message in camera when you try to use Flash function?

Built-in flash auto pop-up problem

Does the 'pop up' pop up? If it does and still says obstructed- closes it and pop it again If it still persists Canon customer support will advise the next move. If a repair price seems high you could perhaps get a separate flash if the camera accepts them.
