Your Sony Vaio laptop comes with a restore section pre-installed that allows you to revert the operating system's settings to an earlier date.

The restore feature is useful if your Sony Vaio has been infected with a virus or some of your hardware is no longer working properly.

If you don't want to search through all of your various settings and registry values to locate the source of the problem, an easier solution is to simply load a restore point.

Close any programs that are currently running.
Open the "Start" menu and click "All Programs."

Select "VAIO Recovery Wizard." Click "Next."
Navigate to "Media and Recovery Options" and click "Proceed with System Recovery."

Select "Next."
Click "Recovery Options," and then choose "Custom Recovery."

Click "Next," and then select "Windows System Restore."
Click "Next" and then "OK."

Click the left and right arrow buttons above the calendar to navigate to a restore point you want to load.
Click the specific restore date you want to use for your Sony Vaio laptop.

Click "Next," and then click "Confirm Restore Point Selection."

I want my restore to be 7/1/2012

That is a specific date, and may not be available.

Win 7 - Start > Start > Search type System Restore.

XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem.

Cant restore to factory settings tried 0,f1 and f8 none work

When your Toshiba Satellite laptop goes on the fritz, there are several instances where the best solution is to delete everything and start over. If your system frequently crashes or you can't remove a specific virus, you may want to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. While the easiest way to restore the system is to use the operating system restore disc, it is possible to restore the system without it. Each Satellite laptop also includes a hard drive recovery utility that lets you restore the operating system without the restore disc.

1. Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

2. Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.

3. Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."

4. Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

5. Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.

6. Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.com

I mistakenly hit 'restore factory settings' on my Acer Laptop. How do I recover my stored data?

Hello,

When logged onto Windows, try to do a system restore. Restore to a date prior to the factory setting restoration if available. This should revert your computer back to the state it was on this date.

Note that you will lose all programs installed after this date.

Hope this helps you.

My pc is infected, and I need to reboot it to its factory settings.

Restore your Laptop to Factory Settings is an EASY utility BUILT into Windows -- it CLEANS EVERYTHING...computer and hardware. But, it is HANDY. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('.intro .thumbnail a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a06/6v/d1/reboot-laptop-back-factory-settings-800X800.jpg'); }); Rebooting your laptop back to its factory settings restores your computer and its hardware to its original settings when it was purchased. This is helpful when troubleshooting major hardware and system performance issues. It can also be used to fix virus related issues. Restoring your computer to its factory settings is similar to performing a clean install of your operating system. Windows uses a utility program called System Restore that allows you to restore your computers settings to a specific date.
jQuery('.intro .thumbnail').each(function(i,e){ jQuery(e).find('img').one('error',function(){ jQuery(e).remove(); }); }); Difficulty: Easy Instructions
  1. Step 1 Turn on your computer, and then click on the "Start" menu icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Select "All Programs," and then click on the "Accessories" drop-down menu.
  2. Step 2 Scroll down to "System Tools," and then select the "System Restore" program and wait for it to open.
  3. Step 3 Select the "Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time" option, and then click on the "Next" button to continue. A window with a calendar will appear.
  4. Step 4 Click on the back arrow in the calendar's window. Click on the back-arrow until you have reached the date you either purchased or installed Windows on your Notebook. Select the appropriate date, and then click on the "Next" button to continue. Your computer will automatically restart.

Changed font size from 96dpi to 120 dpi; made a mess of icons

If you want to revert them back you can either just undo what you did or just do a system restore on your computer. I would take it that you are on XP.

1. Click start then run then type in MSCONFIG
2. Click on lauch system restore.
3. Restore to a point before you changed the dpi
4. Take note that if you restore to a specific date anything that you installed after that specific date till the present will be lost and you have to install them again but files will not be lost.

I hope this has answered your question sufficiently. If you have more questions please post a reply. Thanks.
