Question about Clarion DB245 CD Player

1 Answer

We had a clarion reciever with tape deck in our boat and found another clarion reciever with two new speakers and two good 1996 speakers which had not weathered. The instalation was difficult but the speakers and housing went well. The wiring harness was complicated. The old harness had eight speaker wires which I spliced in. The old harness Model M8430 had 12 wires 8 speaker wires and one red power, one black ground, one yellow for memory and clock, and one orange/blue that was for a power antenna. Thee new harness has 16 wires that I could kind of figure out. eight corresponded to speakers, one a ground, then there were three I thought would not be used on the boat. one a celluar phone mute (brown wire), wire amp turn on wire (blue/ white), an auto antenna leadwire (blue). There were three reamining wires Memory back up lead (yellow in line fuse 15A), and a Bus power lead (yellow in line fuse 3A), both of these say hook directly to battery. I am not sure where to hook these up both to the red power wire? The last one an illumination lead ( orange/white wire) I think I hook up to the yellow wire? Am I correct in how I am hooking these up? The Clarion rep said the hook up was the same. It is a bit complicating. Thanks Eric

As long as you have connected the ground(black) try adding one wire at a time to the live(red). If possible try connection each wire one at a time to the power line and then both together. If nothing has blown(fuses) and the unit starts working then you can try by trial & error method the remaining wires. You should be able to figure out which wire is required and if there are any extra wires like cellular phone(mute) and then decide whether to connect them or keep them open.....sodeep

Look for loose or broken wiring connections. Swap front and rear speakers wires at radio and determine if problem is the radio or the speaker system.

Best bet is to take your boat to a qualified Marine Audio dealer (generally not a boat repair shop or marina), or to a good quality Car audio store that is insured to work on boats (separete insurance usually).
When it comes to boats, you need lots of power and speakers.
First thing to do is make sure what you have is properly installed. Then determine what is "distorting" .. is it too much base, purely volume or what.
Most boats we do (wakeboard style and river boats) we do: 40-75 watts RMS per speaker 4-6 speakers in boat 1 10" or 12" sub with 200-300 watts RMS Tower speaker if requested with 75-125 Watts RMS per speaker

Disconnect all the speaker leads and then hook one speaker (a new, known to work speaker) up directly to the radio using a short (6"-12") piece of speaker wire. Does that speaker work then?

How do i hook my bose 901 equalizer into deno

The Bose EQ connects to the tape out and tape in on the amplifier or reciever. If you were using these for a tape deck, you will then have to connect the tape deck to the tape in and out on the Bose EQ.

Do I need a new equalizer?

Karla, Equipment and water especially SALT water (AND SALT AIR) don't mix very well. The constant high moisture environment affects all the connections (the wires) the rca connectors (where one thing plugs into another, AND the switches. The wires may LOOK good but the connections may not be. When you say "all seems to be in good condition" tell me specifically how you checked them. Sometimes they LOOK good, but ar not making connection. While your stereo is ON, get in there and wiggle everything and see it the speakers come back on.

My first guess is your amplifier/reciever. Does it have speaker switches? If it does, move them up and down or click them many times to see if you can work the corrosion a little. This may help.

I'll try and help, let me know some of the stuff I've asked fo above.

7.1 Reciever vs 5.1 Speakers

Are you gonna miss audio, well that is up to you, this is individual. 7.1 has two additional speakers - center left & right. My personal opinion is that it matters when you have your system installed in large space. Or you can by another two speakers an ad it. Good luck
