make sure the drive is not reading a disk, because if its spinning it can break when you do this process.
look for a hole in the front of the drive, get a paper clip and stick it in there all the way, the tray will now eject or if its a slot loading drive the cd will eject
This simply indicates that your DVD drive lense is faulty/dirty, try using a cleaner to clean the lense, if it doesnt solve the problem, then i think you need to look for a change for it.
2 things that u have to check 1) Is your DVD disks damage so u cannot read it? 2) Is your DVD drive spoil so cannot read your DVD?
To check condition 1), u may try insert other "good" DVD to make sure your DVD drive may read it. If your DVD drive can read other DVD so this mean your current DVD disks are damage. To check condition 2), u may try load your DVD disks using other laptop. If your DVD show readable on other laptop, then this mean your current DVD drive is spoil or may have poor lens sensibility. Try to clean your DVD drive or replace a new 1 if necessary.
given the symptoms, it points to motherboard.. if it was processor, video or ram. it wouldnt boot at all and you'd just get error beeps from your laptop. i'd first try resetting the bios, by removing the bios battery for 30 min, then putting it back in. if that doesnt work try changing it out, usually costs under 8 bucks. if that doesnt work then I would change out the motherboard, if its cost effective.
You may have a trojan horse which is similar to a virus. They usually come from MySpace or such. Related to the mythical trojan Hoarse, they disguise as something good and once on your computer will infect vital areas of the system. You may just need to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the CD/DVD (whatever) drive. Hope this works.
