Question about RIM BlackBerry? Curve 8330 Cellular Phone

Can anyone spare some solution for a bb curve 8338 keypad?

Suddenly my keypad stopped working, screen comes on when put to charge and the trackball only goes up and down but that's all it does. I know there should be a solution for it, I have tried taking the battery off but still no success at all.

Had the same problem this morning, flashed the device (wiped it clean) and reloaded the O/S and everything is back to normal. had to get a couple apps again but all my information on the device is there. Make sure if you have done an update recently that you did the update from your service provider.

The screen is black and neither the keypad, trackball or buttons work

Welcome to Fixya

Sounds like the keypad and trackball is failing. Try to reinstall the BB software of the phone. Its either the 4.6 of the 5.0. If same thing happened after reinstallation then its gonna be a hardware problem.

Thank you for using Fixya!

My blackberry trackball and keypad stopped working. I can scroll with my trackball but not click and my keypad does not respond. How do I fix this?

the trackball need to be clean or replaced as for the keypad it may need to be service but it might be a software issue and the OS may need to be reflash so it would be best to take the phone to a mobile shop and have it diagnose.

I have a trackball that is sticking on a blackberry bold 9000 how do you go about changing one out and is it the same size trackball as a curve

1. It is the same trackball as the curve.

2. Unlike the curve, where you can just pop the silver ring out from the front and the entire trackball comes out, on the Bold, you have to take the unit apart.

3. To take the bold apart follow these instructions:

4. Make sure that the contact underneath the trackball is not dirty. Take a QTip and some rubbing alcohol and clean the contact on the mainboard which makes contact with the trackball.

5. You can then replace the trackball from the curve into the bold, although, if you dont have a spare trackball, you can also clean the trackball with rubbing alcohol. To do this, I would put a solution of 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% distilled water (regular water is ok, but I prefer distilled). Shake it around (or better yet, use a sonic jewelry cleaner)and make sure to roll the ball around to loosen any dirt in the unit. Underneath the rollerball there is a little tab (that is called the spoon). Do not bend the spoon, rather make sure that the area between the spoon and the ball is cleaned out.

6. let everything dry and reassemble.

If you dont have a spare rollerball and want to buy one, There are many for sale on Ebay at around $5.

Trackball "select" not working

Hi - I had the same problem as this and tried to solve it by taking out the trackball and cleaning it as detailed in other posts. However this did not work.

I got it working eventually by carefully lifting the small square orange plactic cover which the trackball sits over and presses down on to select. By cleaning under that I got it to work. You need to be careful as this cover also holds some connectors in place.

The moral of the story is to keep the curve in its holster in your pocket (I lost my holster which is when the trouble started).

Have fun

Blackberry curve 8310 trackball wont go down

Hi there

I had exactly the same problem. I spent a while trying to use a qtip to flush out the dirt but this didn't work.
I eventually sorted it by carefully lifting the cover (use a credit card to lift it up - slip it in the gap above the y key).
Then carefully hold the bb upside down and the trackball will fall out. Catch it in your hand.
Remove any obvious grit. I also used something out of a manicure set. I am not sure what it is called but it looks like a small tick remover. Anyway using one side I carefully slotted it into the small gap between the rubber ring and the trackball and lots of other bits of grit fell out.
Then once it was clean, I popped it back into the bb and refitted the cover - making sure to put the legs in the correct position.

It now works fine

Hope this helps

Trackball issue

The silver ring which covers the trackball can easily be removed if you use a small screwdriver to lift it at the outer side of the ring. Be careful here! Like you should be during the whole process as all parts have very small plastic nipple which can break very easy. When the silver plastic ring is removed you will see the inner trackball component which can be removed completely. Before doing this you should carefully remove the silver metal ring that holds the trackball component in its position. The trackball component itself can also be carved. For every direction the ball can roll to you’ll find a sensor wheel. Those wheels are mostly carrying some gunk you should clean them from. Once this is done put everything back together to the place the pieces came from and secure the trackball with the silver plastic ring you removed in the first step. Your BlackBerry’s trackball should be back working now.
