Question about Kenwood Audio Players & Recorders

3 Answers

I just installed a Kenwood KDC-BT742u deck. When I make calls, or receive calls there is no sound from the speakers. I have tried switching the designated speakers around. I have tried to increase the gain, but nothing works. My friends say they can hear me on the other side, but not well. So, I need to figure out why I have no sound on conversations. Speakers work fine with music.

Trying to toggle between the private talk and hands free does work but when its hands free, no sound will come through the speaker. The microphone should have nothing to do with me being able to hear people through my car speakers. Also, I know the microphone works because people can hear me. Any other thoughts?

Hello there, I can help you out with this problem but need to know a few things. What model phone are you using with the setup, and how are you "tethering" it to the deck? Is it via bluetooth? Or are you actually wiring it through an adapter to the deck.

Please let me know and I will get right back to you.

Hi

According to the information I have on this model you can switch between private mode and handsfree mode when receiving a call by pressing the play/pause button. It may be that you have activated private mode and therefore sounds for calls are not working properly - try pushing this button during a call to see if it makes a difference and activates the handsfree mode properly.

Also you can only adjust the volume of incoming calls with Aud when you are actually receiving the call.

Finally I know you have adjusted the gain but you should also adjust the NR (noise reduction) function to help the clarity of your voice on calls as this cuts out background noise in the vehicle.

Adding a + to NR reduces the surrounding sounds without reducing the microphone volume.

If these all fail suspect a fault with the built in microphone on the unit itself.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

This is a "works-as designed" for the rear speakers. They do not operate in hands-free mode.

See details from KDC-BT742u tech spec:

I just installed a Kenwood - 1d2dc95.gif

For the front speakers you can adjust the SP SEL (Setting up the Voice Output Speakers) parameter, which specifies the voice output speakers.

There are several values to adjust (follow your user manual here):

"FRONT': Outputs voice from the front-left and
front-right speakers.
"F-R": Outputs voice from the front-right speaker.
"F-L": Outputs voice from the front-left speaker.

When installing mt kenwood kdc x696 the wires on the deck do not match the wires on the install

Sometimes you have to ignore the color codes and match by function, i.e., right front speaker wires on the deck to right front speaker wires on the install, etc.

My KDC BT742U recently went into protect mode after I went over a small bump. I drive a 2001 F150 Supercrew that had the stock stereo in it before the new kenwood. No problems had ever occurred before...

What has happened, is the bump has caused a broken joint on the pcb I have seen this many times in my shop. You need to take the actual unit in for repair, I mean the "Bump" and the "Problem" are indeed connected, and this is exactly what happens.

Kenwood kdc-mp238 says protect and i cant hit any buttons

if there is a reset button, try pushing that. if there isn't try disconnecting power to the radio for a few minutes. also try checking the speakers to see if they are shorted out, or if the speaker wires are shorted to ground or have any bare wires.

Kenwood kdc-bt742u flashing protect and no sound

If protect is coming up on the display, it means the system is detecting a short somewhere on one of the speakers and so is turning the amp off to avoid damage.
Check all the connections at the back of the amp to ensure they are not shorting, and at the back of each speaker, if nothing is found there, check each wire for damage, or a bare wire touching the body of the car

I bought a kenwood KDC-BT742U and I'm putting it in my 96 saturn. I connected all the speaker wires and I believe I ran into my problem with the ground wire (black) power wire (red) and a power control...

as far as i know there is no green with a white stripe on kenwoods, unless you are looking at a blue with white, which is an amplifier remote turn on wire. you should have a yellow wire which needs to be connected to a constant power source, as this wire keeps the radio preset and clock from losing memory.

Need to disable bluetooth cell phone feature.

it is specifically made for iPod - iPhone. You must be near a vehicle that is accepting a call on a Kenwood.

The Kenwood Excelon KDC-X493 CD receiver was built from the ground up to accommodate an iPod® in your vehicle. This versatile stereo features a front-panel USB input for connecting and controlling your iPod, along with a 13-character display that shows off your artist and song info.

Looks like there is no way to disable Bluetooth. What you could do is borrow 5 phones and add them to the system. It will ignore any after 5 are installed.

Your manual is here and there is very little to be found with the search word 'disable', I suspect because that is what the unit is sold for.

No sound after installation on a kenwood kdc 30-11

wellllll the most common cause of no sound it that there is a factory amplifier in the vehicle that is not turning on with the radio.. this is done by using the remote turn on wire from the aftermarket deck. or it could be a blown speaker that is shorting out the amp in the deck
