Question about Sony KV-20FV10 20" TV

1 Answer

SONY KV-20FV10 blinks off

My SONY KV-20FV10 blinks off (black screen) and on at least a dozen times before a normal image appears. The blinking is growing worse (faster and longer episodes of blinking) as time passes. I tested the connections at the back of the TV; everything seemed to be fine. Any ideas?

Bad solder contacts on connector/component pins, oxydized connectors, dried up, inflated or blown electrolytic filter capacitors, burnt resistors.

Could be in the main or high voltage power supply, video section power supply, possibly in any of the other sections.

(these are just some ideas)

I opened mine up, in the back, near the bottom, there are two dials, you can slightly increase the one for picture. I read this will reduce the life on your tube radically, but you picture will stop blinking.

I did this two weeks ago and picture is still stable, but it could go anytime. Regardless, the tube is going bad and I'm afraid a new tv is in your future, its not worth replacing the tube.

SONY KV-20FV10 blinks all the time, and standard timer light flash 5 times and off, then again and again.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

Sony Wega Kv-36XBR250 screen blinking

I have seen this flashing before, this could be an indication that the picture tube is weak, what happens is that if the white balance is off there is a circuit called akb it monitors the kathode of each gun and if they are not in balance it will attempt to balance it out. if it can't the picture will begin to flash, sometimes in some models the power light will blink 5 times. On some models the power light will only flash if the tv gives up trying to compinsate for white balance and shuts off compeletely. If you see the tv shutting off with 5 blinks then you know for sure it is time for a new set.

Sounds like the high voltage is marginal.
My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Another option is to wholesale replace the main board by sending it to Module Exchange at 972-298-1212,
or PTS Electronics 800-844-7871 ptscorp.com.
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, these new technology ones are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.
Hope ya fix it!

Picture is going fuzzy and blinking red light...

This is the classic symptom of a CRT (picture tube)that is starting do get weak. The picture takes longer and longer to come on, it appears greenish and blurry, and it blinks on and off in different scenes, and when it is off the timer LED blinks 5 times. Sony has a circuit called "IK Blanking" which monitors and adjusts the colors in the picture tube, and shuts the picture off when the tube is getting too weak. The good news is that the Sony tubes always respond beautifully to a CRT rejuvination (recharge), and the picture returns to perfect. Since the set is 36 inches and VERY heavy, it should be serviced in-house and an appropriate charge for a service call for your set should be around $150.

Sony KV 35S45 Status light blinks, but no picture.

I think the set is worth repairing,it appear it has a loose conection and a few other, as well as overheated areas witch will need to be resoldered to prevent any other problems,if you are familiar with tv service you could check the horizontal drive and output circuits,if you are not too familiar with tv's be safe and call for assiatnce from a servicer. To correcthis problem it should not be too expensive.
