Question about Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1" LCD Monitor

Open Question

Intermittent 2" wide vertical stripe of color distortion

I copied homeboys` problem because he described my problem exactly, so we are obviously having the same problem. I have no problem taking the thing apart, if its possible I can fix it without replacing anything. Right now the monitor is fine but I`m sure in one hour it will do what is described below.

Two problems, probably related:

1) There's a 2" wide vertical stripe of color distortion. From straight black, the stripe appears a dark gray at normal times, not distinguishable when colors on screen. Randomly after some use, the stripe will "freak out" and turn all sorts of random colors, sometimes freezing to a solid color, often correcting itself.

2) The entire portion of the screen to the right side of the stripe will begin shaking and become distorted with lines of random colors after ~30 minutes of use. Will sometimes correct by itself but usually turning off the monitor for an extended period will fix the problem, but temporarily.

Thanks much for the help!

I have a 52 inch Samsung TV, on the screen have solid, color vertical lines on the right, about 1/8 wide, on the same time the half of screen blink on the right too.

not knowing the model... i will try to help with this common samsung issue, if i can. / unplug the tv, and wait a few minutes to avoid shocks. / remove back panel. you will see several ribbon connectors, (about an 1" to 1 1/2" wide) usually near the bottom. / carefully remove the ribbon (ONE AT A TIME) and clean the contacts GENTLY with a pencil eraser. (DO NOT use chemicals) / reinsert the ribbons and try the tv. // vertical stripes are almost always the result of poor contact between ribbon and socket. / NOTE!. you can do a quick test before opening the set by [carefully!!!!] twisting the screen and watch to see if the vertical stripes change or disappear. / if the stripes change, bet on it being the ribbon contact problem.//// hope this helps, it has worked on a number of TVs.------Jay

My hp vs 15 displays vertical color stripes that alternate different colors wether its hooked up tp computer or not what is wrong, is it junk

It may sound strange but be absolutely sure the cable is plugged into the monitor. Adapter on the computer. The serial adapter on the back looks just like video. Video actually has a faintly noticeable monitor icon rigtht next to it. Plugging into a serial can eventually blow out your monitor. Also, a.badcable can do the same thing. And if you have messed up the monitor's settings you will see the same

42" Panasonic Plasma - Vertical red stripe 6" from left side

We originally had a red stripe roughly 3" wide running vertically on the ride edge area of our Panasonic 52" Viera plasma tv. It has now been joined by a solid black stripe of the same width running from the top to the bottom. Living in Germany and purchased at local PX long enough ago that the warranty is likely expired. Now what?

Can you isolate which color is causing the banding?
Is there something ON the lense itself?
Is the projection mirror broken or bent?
