His was a very common problem with old Yamahas. It was usually a combination of your vacuum petcoock leaking a little, and your floats being slightly out of adjustment.

SOURCE: Air filter smell like gas

It's perfectly normal for an engine with a carb to have an air filter that smells like gasoline. The reason being is because of a concept called "fuel stand off" - in a nutshell, the air that is going through your carbs towards the cylinders gets bounced back towards the air filter when the intake valves close. Since carbs aren't that smart, the air coming back towards the filter picks up even more fuel from the float bowl, and then heads in to your air filter box to say hello.

SOURCE: 2003 honda shadow spirit vt750 carb problem

buddy dont worry about it what you have done is put to much oil inside the engine and as the piston goes down it cause abit off pressure which in the small space it has when you over filled it the pressure inside has just forced the oil out the breather into the air box just give it a little clean and drop oil aswell bud

Testimonial: "Thats Great news. Yup just like you said I drained all the oil, put in the right amount & cleaned the intake chamber and its running great now.THANKS!"

SOURCE: Hi,I just bought a 84 honda goldwing interstate.

The bike may be discharging the battery. you need to test stator output, voltage regulator, and the fuses. Does the battery need to be recharged to restart?

SOURCE: bike runs ok for a

Look into fuel flow issues, there is a strainer in the tank, and usually a filter. This description sounds like a restricted screen and or filter.

The oil may not be a real issue, as closed crankcase ventalation system moves some oil to that area, to be burned by intake into combustion chamber. Excessive oil will happen when your engine is near the end of it's life and crankcase blow by becomes extreme.

Got fuel in with oil and air filter smells of fuel bike runs ok Honda cb750f2n 1994

Hey Anon... you have fuel in the oil.. than you have a CARBURETOR problem.. one (ALL) of your carburetors needle and seat (the things that regulate the flow of gas into the carb) is not sealing and allowing gas to flow through the carb...instead of running out the overflow,...it runs into you engine...and into your airbox.(air filter).. this IS DANGEROUS!!!!! ... If you have ran this engine, with fuel in the oil..you MAY have SERIOUSLY DAMAGED your engine. Take this bike to a qualified professional ASAP...tell him what happened..ask him what happened....he SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY tell you what I have told you..IF HE CAN'T FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!!!!!

Looking for information on 1988 honda vlx radiator

Instructions
    • 1 Remove the motorcycle's carburetor and clean it with carburetor cleaner, getting rid of any and all grime and deposits within. If necessary, use an air compressor with a small tip to blow out any clogged lines within the carburetor.
    • 2 Check the motorcycle's fuel tank for old fuel. Drain the fuel tank completely and refill the tank with fresh fuel. Old gasoline isn't good for most motors, especially older ones.
    • 3 Remove the motorcycle's seat by unscrewing the two mounting bolts on both sides of the back of the seat with a 12 mm socket wrench. Pop off the top of the air box and remove the bike's air filter. Clean this thoroughly in hot, soapy water. Rinse it off, let it air-dry then apply air filter oil before reinstalling it in the motorcycle.
    • 4 Check the tire pressure and integrity of both tires on the motorcycle. If either tire is flat, leaking air or overly worn, replace the tire and tube.
    • 5 Change the motorcycle's oil. Warm the bike up, then remove the oil drain plug underneath the transmission and drain the oil. While the drain plug is still loose, fill the oil reservoir until oil begins to run out of the plug. This means the reservoir is full. Tighten the drain plug.

2000 vtx 1800r running rich at idle...spark plugs black with soot.

Have you changed the oil lately? If there is to much oil in the motor the bike will push oil up into the airbox and foul the air filter out. This will cause the bike to run rich. check the oil level and then drain any excess out to the proper level. You will need to clean or replace the air filter in order to make the bike run well.

My 1994 Honda Civic will start, but dies as soon as I let off the ignition. Any suggestions?

I'm not a qualified mechanic but I have driven all sorts of cars vans and motorcycles.
Starting / Running problems fall in to two categories
(1) High Tension/Low Tension ignition or
(2) Fuel/Air.

For (1) it could be a number of things. Here are a few questions which may help eliminate problems.
Is the battery charged and holding charge (min 13.8 V normally)?
Is the ignition timing correct?
Is there a fault on the coil?
Is there a fault on the Low Tension circuit?
Has the distributer Cap got tracking marks?
Plug Gaps OK?
Are the sparks from the HT circuit nice and blue in color?
Is the "black Brain box" functioning correctly?
 For (2)
Is the air filter clean?
If Carbs are fitted are jets Ok?
If Carbs are fitted ae the diaphrams Ok?
If fuel injection are the injectors OK?
Slow Running set ok on idle?
Fuel filter clean?
Fuel pump functioning?

Hope these help
